They released it on their 1969 album 20/20 with Carl Wilson on lead vocals, and was their first single released in stereo. With Brian Wilson losing more and more interest in producing for the Beach Boys, younger brother Carl "stepped in" as the role of producer and lead Beach Boy. This song is considered by many as Carl Wilson's first taste at being the "leader" of the group. The song is also notable for being the first Beach Boys song that Brian did not sing on. 'I can hear music' reached #24 in US and #10 in UK. "I Can Hear Music" is a single and track from the 1996 compilation album, "Stars & Stripes 1", by The Beach Boys and various country artists, including Willie Nelson, Lorrie Morgan, Sawyer Brown, Collin Raye and others. The album was released on River North Records and was produced by Joe Thomas and Brian Wilson. The concept of the album is having contemporary country artists cover some of the Beach Boys biggest hits with the group doing backup. It's a nice idea, but some songs work better than others, unfortunately. Although not a country music singer, Kathy Troccoli's full-voiced rendition of "I Can Hear Music" with the Boys as backup works for me. Willie Nelson's "Warmth of the Sun" is probably the highlight of the album. An interesting project that kind of works, sometimes. "I Can Hear Music" was written by Jeff Barry, Ellie Greenwich and Phil Spector. The original Beach Boys version was released on their 1969 Capitol Records album, "20/20" and was a worldwide Top-Twenty single release. Unlimited Touch was a New York based post disco group who had some regional fame in the early eighties. The group consisted of Audrey Wheeler, Phil Hamilton, Tony Cintron, Sandy Anderson, Stephanie James and Lenny Underwood. Raymond Reid and William Anderson from New York based band Crown Heights Affair instigated Unlimited Touch in the early '80's, however, they did not form part of the band. Featuring vocalists Audrey Wheeler and Stephanie James, the group was signed to Prelude Records (via Epic Records in the UK). Due to a major management / label and group dispute, they disbanded by the end of 1981. Lenny Underwood co-wrote "I Hear Music In The Streets" and "Searchin' To Find The One" which were regional hits in the States. They later released "Yes We're Ready", in 1983, and a further single "Reach Out (Everlasting Love)" in 1984. In 1999, producer Sean Combs sampled the bass and drum breakdown of "I Hear Music In The Streets" for the Faith Evans song, "All Night Long". Other artists who have sampled "I Hear Music In The Streets" include Biz Markie and Rampage along with Bille Lawrence. The album was released on Hear Music on 7 February 2012. It has been released on LP and CD. The album's title, "Kisses on the Bottom", comes from the album's lead track "I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter," originally a hit for Fats Waller in 1935. Said McCartney on the album, "I worked with Diana Krall, and great jazz musicians like John Clayton. This is an album very tender, very intimate. This is an album you listen to at home after work, with a glass of wine or a cup of tea." The disc was helmed by jazz producer Tommy LiPuma who has previously worked with Miles Davis and Barbra Streisand, among others. "My Valentine", the first song released from the album, features Eric Clapton on guitar. Stevie Wonder appears on another album track, "Only Our Hearts". McCartney plays acoustic guitar on two tracks, "Get Yourself Another Fool" and "The Inch Worm," but otherwise contributes only vocals to the album. The deluxe version of the album includes two additional tracks (including "Baby's Request", a cover of a Wings song from the Back to the Egg album), a download code for access to an exclusive live show available from Paul McCartney's website a week after the album's release, and longer liner notes and expanded album packaging, including three postcards.
