Heidelberg part1

Heidelberg is one of the prettiest and best-preserved towns in all of Germany, set in picture postcard perfection alongside the Neckar River, with a classic castle towering above. Filled with Old World charm, its almost like a fantasy version of an ancient German town, or something dreamed up by Disney -- but this is the real thing. Heidelbergs historic center of picturesque early 18th century buildings, about one mile long and four blocks wide, is an ideal-sized pedestrian zone to explore on foot.

Heidelberg part2

Heidelberg has a pleasant, old-fashioned appearance, with charming four-story buildings that share a similar architecture of matching facades and harmonious, earth-tone color schemes, topped with clay-tile roofs. No two buildings are exactly alike and yet they all blend seamlessly in a simple Baroque style. While the exteriors may be centuries old, they are maintained spotlessly with fresh paint and modern fixtures. The shop interiors are totally contemporary, if not futuristic, with all the latest goods on sale. Numerous restaurants will delight you with their gourmet fare and tasty beer. We then visit the most important single sight in Heidelberg -- the magnificent castle on the hill. It is a romantic ruin, with enough buildings still standing to present a very good idea of how wonderful this complex was during its glory days in the 15th-17th centuries. The extreme mix of destruction and beauty conjures up the turbulent past of this strategic fortification, with crumbling walls and towers standing next to a complete palace containing a fully-restored interior. And while here, you get a fantastic view looking down on the Old Town -- more than just beautiful, this is one of the great vistas of Europe, and the castle itself ranks in a lofty league with those of Salzburg or Edinburgh.
Heidelberg Windmill

I was numbering a job on my 1950 Heidelberg Windmill. This one's worn out, but I've run a few others that are nice! This is still the best way to number, perf & Die cut. The Germans got it right.
Heidelberg part3

Another fun activity is the one-hour boat ride on the Neckar River, passing various highlights of Heidelberg. Late in the afternoon is a perfect time for a stroll along the famous Philosophers Walk. To get there, cross the river on the landmark Old Bridge (Alte Brucke), one of the signature sights of the city that dates back to 1786. Pass through the twin-towered gatehouse onto the rosy-colored bridge and admire the view looking back towards the castle. There are some large statues along the bridge which are reminiscent of two other important European landmarks, the Charles Bridge in Prague and Ponte SantAngelo in Rome. When you reach the other side, walk to the left a few yards to get a postcard view looking back at the bridge with the town and castle behind. This is just a taste of the major panorama you are about to experience, once you climb the hill. Cross the busy street at the light and follow the sign that points to Philosophenweg, a narrow foot path that leads up the hill in a steep series of staircases. This climb takes about fifteen minutes and is like walking up a thirty-story building, so it is not for the fainthearted, but is well worth the effort. It is a green and pleasant path that will bring you to an observation terrace with one of the worlds most beautiful views: the fairy-tale village on a river with its brooding castle above, tinted in earthy hues, with clay tile roofs and rosy-colored stone walls, especially vivid late in the day.

Kaptan Jungteerapanich from Thailand travelled Europe for two months. His last stop was Heidelberg, which is where we joined him for a day out. The Old Centre and the castle Heidelberg is home to over 140 thousand residents and was first mentioned in 1196. We vist the old centre with its quaint narrow streets and head for the castle high above the town. It was an official residence for five hundred years and is one of the leading examples of German renaissance architecture. The University Heidelberg has the oldest Ununiversity in Germany. Nearly 30000 students attend the university today. It was founded 1386. Vistors can see what was once a prison for rowdy students. Heading up to the Königstuhl You can take a train up to the Königstuhl which offers fantastic views of the churches, the whole town, the river Neckar, the old bridge, almost everything. Kaptan Jungteerapanich says he likes this place a lot. It feels so great to be up here, where everything is so far away. Everything is so small and all your troubles are far away.

Heidelberg Catechism Song ~ Curtis 'Voice' Allen ft CJMahaney

CJMahaney says: On a stage in front of 2800 attendees at the 2010 NEXT conference, I called out my friend Curtis Allen. Live video www.youtube.com Kevin DeYoung was speaking at the conference, and the focus of his newest book was the Heidelberg Catechism. He called it The Good News We Almost Forgot: Rediscovering the Gospel in a 16th Century Catechism (Moody, 2010). So at NEXT 2010 I challenged Curtis (aka Voice) to write and record a rap song to promote Kevin's book and the catechism. Curtis delivered. On Friday, this is what he sent me: Lyrics Verse 1 Yeah I'm on a mission like a couple spies, and that guys is the reason why I catechize. Heidelberg, Baden-Württemberg, Germany

Situated on the Nekkar River, Heidelberg has an antique flavor that inspired many poets from the Romantic Age. The city's waterfront is vibrant and a good place to get on a tour of the busy river. It's best to get rid of your car right away in an underground parkade and enjoy walking around, cycling or employing public transportation. The Baroque era is well restored in the Old Town, with rustic shops and cafés on pedestrian streets. Heidelberg is a city in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. As of 2006, over 140000 people live within the city's 109 square kilometres (42 sq mi) area. The town of Heidelberg is an administrative district of its own. Although not being part of it, the Rhein-Neckar-Kreis, the rural district, which surrounds the town, has its seat in Heidelberg. Heidelberg lies on the river Neckar at the point where it leaves its narrow, steep valley in the Odenwald to flow into the Rhine valley where, 20 kilometres (12 mi) Northwest of Heidelberg, it joins the river Rhine at Mannheim. Heidelberg is part of a densely populated region known as the Rhein-Neckar-Triangle.
