Ten more students have been implicated in a rampant SAT cheating scandal in affluent Nassau County. Last September, Sam Eshaghoff, a former student at Great Neck North High School, was arrested for helping several high school students cheat on the SAT. In the deal, Eshaghoff would use false IDs to take the test for his friends, who would then reward him with up to 2500 dollars. Eshaghoff, 19, now a student at Emory University, faces up to four years in prison. Now, more students -- Joshua Chefec, Michael Pomerantz, Adam Justin, and George Trane, have turned themselves in for running similar schemes. Chefec is the son of David Chefec, a Garden City attorney. On Monday, eight students who paid their peers to sit the exam for them also turned themselves in. Their names were not released to the media as they are minors. Officials involved with the case reported that students had paid up to $3500 to their friends in return for taking the test. The extraordinary payouts have some observers wondering if parents of the cheats were in on the scheme. The latest scandal is sure to hit Nassau County hard; high schools in the area are known for their academic prowess, and according to school figures, in the past five college admission cycles, Great Neck North High School sent over 50 students on to the Ivy League.
