Chateaux of the Loire

The Loire valley includes historic towns such as Amboise, Angers, Blois, Chinon, Nantes, Orléans, Saumur, and Tours. The Loire Valley (French: Vallée de la Loire), spanning 280 kilometres (170 miles), is located in the middle stretch of the Loire River in central France. It comprises an area of approximately 800 square kilometres (310 sq mi). It is referred to as the Cradle of the French Language, and the Garden of France due to the abundance of vineyards, fruit orchards, artichoke, asparagus and cherry fields which line the banks of the river. Notable for its historic towns, architecture and wines, the valley has been inhabited since the Middle Palaeolithic period. In 2000, UNESCO added the central part of the Loire River valley to its list of World Heritage Sites. The architectural heritage in the valley's historic towns is notable, especially its castles, such as the Châteaux d'Amboise, Château de Chambord,château d'Ussé, Château de Villandry and Chenonceau. The châteaux, numbering more than three hundred, represent a nation of builders starting with the necessary castle fortifications in the 10th century to the splendor of those built half a millennium later. When the French kings began constructing their huge châteaux here, the nobility, not wanting or even daring to be far from the seat of power, followed suit. Their presence in the lush, fertile valley began attracting the very best landscape designers. In addition to its many châteaux, the cultural monuments ...

Historic Sandon, Ghost Town, BC, Canada

A ghost town with a story to tell, located in southern BC, Canada. Janer B and I took a road trip through southern BC, Canada in May 2012. One of the places I always love to visit is Sandon, a historic mining town located in the Selkirk mountains, approximately 10km east of New Denver. In 1891, vast deposits of galena ore were discovered here by Eli Carpenter and Jack Seaton. Swarms of prospectors from all over north America rushed in to the valley to stake their claims. Due to the almost instant prosperity, Sandon quickly became a community with the most modern of conveniences. There were twenty nine hotels, twenty eight saloons, theatres and stores along with the factories and mills to process the ore. A number of churches did their best to police the predominantly male population, as they frolicked amongst certain ladies who were also attracted by ready cash. Electricity was quickly supplementing candlelight and other forms of power and with their prosperity and abundant water, Sandonites saw no reason why they should miss out on this new "state of the art" power source. Sandon was the first settlement in British Columbia to become entirely electrified. Ample water supplied from high in the mountains was directed through pipework in to Pelton wheel turbines; over the years, eight separate hydro generating stations were built. Originating in 1897 the Silversmith station (in the video) was the finest generating station built in Sandon and continues to to supply AC power ...

Lexington, Massachusetts Community Tour

www.NorthOfBostonRealEstate.com - Lexington, Massachusetts is a historic town in Middlesex County. Originally settled nearly four centuries ago, the town is most famous as the site of the opening shots of the American Revolution. Today, Lexington is an affluent community that prides itself on the beauty of town land, the safety of its residents and the excellence of its public school system. The town has numerous parks, conservation lands, museums and libraries that provide exceptional opportunities for recreational and cultural activities. The town was first settled as a part of Cambridge in 1642. Incorporated separately in 1713, the community saw light industrial development in the succeeding decades but remained predominantly agricultural in nature throughout the colonial period. On the morning of April 19th, 1775, Lexington entered our nation's history when the British Army marched into town and were met by a local militia. Assembled by General Thomas Gage under the orders of British Secretary of State William Legge, Earl of Dartmouth, the British "redcoats" intended to capture and destroy a store of military supplies belonging to a rebel colonial militia. Rebel leaders had already received word of the Earl's instructions from sources in London, so the store of arms was removed from Concord and distributed to neighboring community. When the British troops arrived in town, a party of 77 militiamen emerged from Buckman Tavern to confront them, and amidst the ensuing ...

Le triangle D'or

In January 2010, three friends flew from Mai Sai, in the far north of Thailand into the infamous Golden Triangle, where the borders of Thailand, Myanmar and Laos converge. This is Chiang Rai province's most popular attraction, luring thousands of visitors annually. This notorious area, located approximately nine kilometres from the historic town of Chiang Saen, is bolstered by its history and the surrounding towns. It's riverfront position at the confluence of the Mekhong and Ruak rivers lends it a unique appeal. Located near the Northern-most point of Thailand - The Golden Triangle was once the centre of all opium poppy growing in the country, and actually refers to a large area of the three bordering countries. However, the point of actual convergence of these borders is what most people now call the Golden Triangle. Here, the illicit crops have long since been replaced, and today the roads are flanked by countless small restaurants and vendor's souvenir stalls along the banks of the Mekhong river. The historic 60km flight was made in the afternoon, in decreasing thermic conditions. The camera operator had an engine out at 150 ft. and subsequent re-start above the sand island.

Many of the lakes in Masuria are connected with each other by rivers and canals, so it is possible to sail or kayak hundreds of kilometers in the region. Masurian Lake District (Mazury in Polish) is located in northeastern Poland close to the border with Lithuania. The sparsely inhabited region has a great number of lakes, including the biggest ones in Poland. Once a part of German Prussia, Masuria became a part of Poland after the World War II, after which most of the original Masurian population immigrated to Germany. Today, Masuria has Polish, Ukrainian as well as a small number of German Masurian inhabitants. The area is the most famous lake district in Central Europe and has become a popular vacation destination for Polish people, who visit Masuria in summer. Historic Route 66 Through Amarillo, Texas

On June 29, 1956, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed into law the National Interstate and Defense Highways Act which initiated the construction of 41000 miles of interstate highways across America. As a result, many small towns that had once thrived along the famed east-west Route 66 were bypassed by the new high-speed interstate highway system. Faced with financial ruin, these small towns struggled to survive. In this travel video, I take a drive along a brief section of eastbound Historic Route 66 (Business 40) through Amarillo, Texas. The road continues on into downtown Amarillo on the west side of town.

Only 45 minutes north of San Francisco, Sonoma is the most-down-to-earth slice of heaven around, its lush farmlands, rolling vineyards and historic towns lost in a time all their own. Given our Mediterranean climate and rich agricultural roots, our culinary and winemaking legacy, our bohemian artists and small artisan food producers, we cant think of a better place to all hail the olive. Authenticity, history, and community underscore the Sonoma Valley Olive Season. The vibrant heart of old Sonoma--the historic Mission, the Sonoma Barracks and tree-lined Plaza--provides a central backdrop for key Olive Festival events. For more than a century, local olive and grape harvests have been blessed and celebrated in this location, and were happy to carry on the tradition.

Best of Budapest video

www.budapestinfo.hu www.budapest-card.com The capital city of Hungary, Budapest, was created out of the unification of the separate historic towns of Buda, Pest and Óbuda in 1873. Whilst the area had been inhabited from early times, it was from this date that the citys expansion into a world capital really began. Budapest is bisected by the River Danube, with the city as much a natural geographical centre as it is the countrys transport hub. Covering an area of two hundred square miles and divided into 23 administrative districts, it is home today to a population of 1.8 million people.
