Surviving the Holocaust: Yaakov Hollander's Story
Ya'akov Hollander was a ten-year-old boy living in Krakow, Poland, when WWII broke out. Deported from his home and eventually crammed into the Krakow ghetto, Ya'akov passed through twelve different concentration camps during the Holocaust. A walking skeleton when he was finally liberated, Yaakov had lost both his parents and most of his family in the Holocaust. With his world completely destroyed, Yaakov turned to music in an attempt to cope with his loss. Joining a children's choir in a camp for child survivors, Yaakov forged a lifelong bond with music, becoming a composer, musical arranger and choir conductor. Despite all of the horror he faced as a child, through the help of music, Yaakov has managed to remain an optimistic person. www1.yadvashem.org

This ride has been in development for more than four years and today was the day De Vliegende Hollander (The Flying Dutchman) was presented to the press and a few hundred 'test'-passengers. The ride is a combination of a walk-through, darkride and rollercoaster ending in a large watersplash. The total investment was more than 20 million euro, the biggest investment De Efteling did in a new ride.

Welcome to the Vliegende Hollander 2010 Concept. This is a project I've been working on for half a year now, and it's a full upgrade of my old concept version. It started out as a test to see two new scenes I though out, but I ended up redoing everything. This version has a total of 9 scenes. Unlike most darkrides these scenes are totaly different every time. STORY The story is about you. On year afther captain Willem van der Decken sails out and turns into the ghost captain you sail out. Onces you're on board, the ship is attack and you just manage to get out. You see the Cape of good Hope, but right before you reach it your blown away, right into the storm. After a while, the storm lies down. What happens then, you got to find out for yourself. Efteling - De Vliegende Hollander HD (The Flying Dutchman)
The Flying Dutchman (or "De Vliegende Hollander" in Dutch) is a combination of a Water coaster and a dark ride in amusement park Efteling in the Netherlands. It should have gone operational on April 16, 2006 Easter, exactly 328 years after the disappearance of the legendary Dutch merchant The Flying Dutchman; due to construction problems the opening was postponed to April 1, 2007. The legend and the attraction: Willem van der Decken, a captain of the Dutch eastindian corporation VOC, the first limited company, is a wealthy trader in command of the fastest ship of the VOC, named the "Hollander" (Dutchman). But greed takes control of him and secretly he starts practicing piracy. He recruits his crew from orphanages. On Easter 1678, despite a heavy storm blowing into port, he sets sail for the Dutch East Indies. When all despair for this lack of fear for God, he proclaims: "I will sail, storm or not, Easter or not, prohibited or not. I will sail, even into eternity!" (old Dutch: "Ik zal vaeren, storm of gheen storm, Paesen of gheen Paesen, verbod of gheen verbod. Ik zal vaeren, al is het tot in den eeuwigheid!"). Against the wind he sailed toward damnation. The house of van der Decken is part of the scenery for the queue line. After walking through this abandoned house the queue continues down into so-called 'smugglers' tunnels', where van der Decken's treasure can be seen hidden behind a small door. Van der Decken woont in het mooiste huis op de stadswal, met uitzicht op de haven. Hij geniet van zijn welvaart. Maar schijn bedriegt, er kleeft bloed aan zijn succes. Het volk en de Heren Bewindhebbers weten niets van het duistere dubbelleven van de kapitein. Van der Decken wordt een hebzuchtige kaperkapitein, die kustdorpen plundert en schepen entert. Het goud en de juwelen houdt hij zelf. Die slaat hij op in de geheime schatkamer onder zijn huis die hij via smokkelgangen bereikt. Die smokkelgangen doen straks dienst als doorgang voor de bezoekers van de attractie in de Efteling De Vliegende Hollander heeft, met 11 sloepen <b>...</b>
