According to the Fire Department, the victims were employees of the restaurant Steak Carioca. Witnesses who were at the scene after the explosion reported that there was a strong smell of gas in the region. The hypothesis of a gas leak, however, has not been confirmed by the authorities. Officials of the State Gas Company (GEC) conducted an inspection of the establishment destroyed, but the restaurant did not use piped gas, and yes, bottles.
