MTR Corporation, operator of Hong Kong's mass transit rail system, had awarded a joint venture between Laing O'Rourke and Bachy Soletanche a contract for underground tunnelling works. The Hong Kong section of the rail link stretches from West Kowloon to the province's border with Shenzhen. The whole project will eventually connect to China's 16000km high-speed rail network; construction is expected to finish in 2015.
