The Artistry of Michael Jordan Part 1 by Hoopsencyclopedia

HQ link: www.youtube.com (High Quality version available for public download at www.megaupload.com/?d=B7G20831) The easiest compilation video to make is one of Michael Jordan. All you need to do is take 5 games from his career and you'll have enough material for an entire news segment. The most difficult compilation video to make is one of Michael Jordan. If you take any 5 games from his career, you'll have so much material you won't know what to cut out. Therein lied the challenge of this edit for me. With the tons of MJ mixes out there, I wanted to do something more complete. I also wanted to focus on the aesthetics of his abilities. That led me to a path of picking not only classic clips, but rare ones and personal favorites. For those who didn't grow up in the 80s before MJ became a champion, they can never know the full experience of what watching Jordan was like. Before all the awards, the statistics, the monster games, the titles and the global appeal, MJ was about his incredible moves. In the playground, people stuck their tongues out and tried to imitate his drives to the basket. Later on, people imitated his fadeaway. But his athletic moves were singular and his alone - awesome in aesthetics, control, spontaneity, improvisation, instinct and athleticism. MJ revolutionized the game with his individual exploits and we see bits and pieces of this in everyone today. From Kobe studying his shooting mechanics to create shots to Wade attacking the basket to Lebron ...

The Artistry of Michael Jordan II: Outtakes by Hoopsencyclopedia

This video had to be made because there was so much material left after Artistry II and I didn't want to wait until Part III. These clips may have been left out perhaps due to some quality issues, one less triple pump here and there or because I used other camera angles but the main reason is basically that there simply wasn't enough room to fit everything into Part II. With an entire career that was a highlight reel, that problem is rather extremely large. So, without the constraints of actually doing a Part II (since it's already done), consider this more of a "B" side of sorts, or, for that matter, a relaxing second course after the Filet Mignon. And with that idea in mind, I had a little fun this time - with of course the theme of MJ's mastery of athleticism and finesse intact. Some personal viewing notes: 0:54 Beating the triple with the righty roll 1:00 Beating the triple with the lefty roll 1:35 Quick direction change into the step-hop dunk. 1:47 Even in this small jump going up with the triple team at the same time, MJ comes down last. 3:07 Right lateral fade 3:11 Left lateral fade 4:30 Quick wrist flick improv at the last second to get over the long arm 4:54 Going against the quadruple team 5:01 Pumping over the triple team 6:06 Fakes using the screen against Childs 6:31 Challenging the quad again 8:43 Roll and bounce off defender fade left 8:46 Roll and bounce off defender fade right 8:56 Abusing the double trap twice 9:01 Gill with the massive hand check and ...

The Artistry of Michael Jordan II by Hoopsencyclopedia (HD)

(HD LINK: www.youtube.com My long awaited follow up to Artistry Part 1 continues the singular and mesmerizing display of athletic art by the Master. This is how you amass a record 10 scoring titles at 30.1ppg and 50% as a perimeter. Clyde Drexler's timeless quote after meeting MJ in the 1992 Finals comes to mind here: "I used to think MJ had 2000 moves. I was wrong - he has 3000." I also like this quote from SLAM's Top 50 Players issue from 6/2009 on MJ: "...the masterpiece, it has all eyes in the room on it while it plays, and shows timeless resiliency afterward, increasing in beauty, value and fame long after the artist is gone. Jordan is that masterpiece." This was a tough project for me because for a long time, I didn't have a vision on how to approach it. When it finally clicked, the biggest hurdle was putting forth the time and energy to get the vision from my mind onto paper - or should I say WMV file. But I think it worked out ok here. So, thanks to all those who whipped me into shape and pushed and badgered me to get to work and finish this. In the end, I was just as excited in getting it done as anyone out there and I hope it was worth the wait. And while 95% of the footage here is from my collection, the 5% I 'borrowed' to make this work means thanks to all the other uploaders out there with tons of footage. You know who you are and keep up the great work. -Hoopsencyclopedia 7/17/09 (The song is "Lawrence - Along the Wire" (Superpitcher remix) by John Digweed ...

HQ Link: www.youtube.com Music is "8000" by Extrawelt. So after lazying it up for a few years, I may actually finish "Artistry 2". A lot of people have pushed me to get out and do it after "Artistry 1" so thanks. As always, I'm going to go to my favorites as well as using rare clips. This one will have more skill-focus since MJ was the most skilled player as well as being the most athletic player. Every shot was a strength and a go-to shot at any time in the game. Some thoughts on these clips: -Opening Ad: I found this commercial hilarious with the opening line narration. The highlights were aplenty from Day One. -0:51: Raw athleticism, talent and control. Cannot be taught nor bought. -1:00: Big, swooping reverse from his 61pt game against Detroit. MJ runs up court as soon as he launches knowing the shot is in from the start. He barely peeks afterwards just to confirm it's a swish. The hang-reverse was just another one of his go-to shots in the clutch. -1:15: Perfect, efficient footwork at age 35. No need to blow by them when you can outwit. MJ improvises as only he can under help defender Keith Van Horn afterwards. -1:31: Within the Master of Fades mini-montage, MJ pulls here the turn/leaner - yet another one of his mastered shots. -1:34: The hanging, forward fade. An early, favorite during the 80s. -1:34: The super-juke fade. Houston is not alone on the victims list. -1:39: Beautiful baiting of the double only to turn away on a dime. -1:50: After defying the laws of ...

Michael Jordan 1987: 58 pts. Vs. Nets (RARE!)

Young MJ had already scored 63 in the playoffs the year before, but here, in his 3rd pro year at age 23, he scored 58 for his regular season high at the time. MJ broke Chet Walker's Bull's record which was at 56. Going 16-25 and 26-27 from the ft line, the ending stamps it all: "And it came in spectacular Michael Jordan fashion - foul, hang-time, reverse - all of it".

Michael Jordan 1993: 64 pts Vs. Shaq & Orlando Magic

MJ welcomed Shaq's first visit to Chicago with one of his classic statement games. Shaq's fanfare as the next great player meant MJ had to assert his supreme dominance yet again. Having an injured shooting wrist, MJ practiced lefty jumpers before the game. But as usual, an injured MJ was usually a deadlier MJ and he broke 60 points without needing a three because his already unmatchable mid-range game was raised to absurd proportions. Unfortunately for MJ, with the game close and going to OT, Horace Grant committed a crucial turnover in the last minute which made his performance go to waste. But the statement was made.

Michael Jordan 1993: 42pts vs. Robinson's Spurs

Please visit Hoops' new blog. You can donate to my cause there - thanks. hoopsencyclopedia.wordpress.com Oh yeah, I love MJ vs. the Real Bigs - especially considering these days where the center has become extinct. We have quasi centers in Dwight (undersized and underskilled), Bynum (good size but limited in power and physicality), and who else? So let's go back to the Golden Era when there was nothing like MJ routinely attacking dominant centers on his way to 40+ points with frenetic defense and bruising rebounds. Although his shooting was slightly 'off' by his standards here (46% is a bad game when you actually are God), he still got his stuff going and made Robinson pay with a couple of blocks. But the Spurs came into this one with a Finals like energy that put the Bulls on their heels the entire time. MJ made a valiant effort to steal the win, but his awesome tie-maker was just an inch off. What a perfect shot he got off though - he's the man for just doing that alone.

Michael Jordan, "Is that big enough?"

hoopsencyclopedia uploaded this game already. High Quality : www.youtube.com Jordan had just dunked over 6-0 John Stockton, and as he ran down court at the Salt Palace, a fan at courtside yelled to him to try something like that against someone his own size (Jordan is 6-6). On the Bulls' next possession, Jordan came down on the fast break and dunked over 7-1 Mel Turpin. As he ran back on defense, he turned to the fan who had heckled him and said, "Is that big enough?"

Michael Jordan 1993: 44pts Vs. Phoenix Suns

What a sneak preview of that year's Finals. With the Bulls meeting the top-winning team that year in the Suns, we all knew MJ would raise his game and enter his zone - which he obviously did. MJ mixed in his regular amazing shots with some rarities you'll ever see anyone do ever and today: a half-court, lefty-drive dunk, a fast-break stop/pop jumper and a ridiculous, finger-roll. Hitting 61%, MJ made disgusting shot after shot to bring the Bulls down from 11 to tie it up with seconds left in the game. Fortunately for the Suns, super PG Kevin Johnson came through with some amazing, slithering drives and Barkley punctuated the end with his own clutch, power shots in the waning seconds. But MJ's masterful performance was just a harbinger of what was to come later in the finals that year, which we all know of course. Michael Jordan 2003: 40yrs & 30pts vs. Dirk's Mavericks

At Hoopsencyclopedia, there is no lockout. So the march goes on. To honor this year's champs, here's Yoda Mike taking it to future legend and 2011 Champion Dirk and his Dallas Mavericks with Nash, Finley and Bell at his side. Just days after shattering the record at age 40 with 43pts, MJ followed it up here with 30pts while being the best player on both ends of the floor. You can marvel at all his wise and cunning midrange shots all you want. But my favorite moment in this game is the look on MJ's face when the game-winner doesn't go down. He gets off the perfect shot and is absolutely perplexed that it didn't hit. And you are too. That's fine, give me 5 more minutes of MJ win or lose any day.

Michael Jordan 2002: 41pts at age 38 Vs. Phoenix Suns

When MJ said his injured knee was feeling 'not horrible' during this grandfatherly phase (which was not often), he was dropping 40+ with ease. Here he is getting 41 just after hitting 40 against Cleveland at age 38 and a half. I assume that Dan Majerle brought out the inspiration in Father MJ due to memories of the 1993 Finals and unfortunately, The Young Matrix got in the way and took some abuse in the process. Hitting the zone and 17 shots, MJ notched 41pts on 17 buckets at 57% without even taking a trey and only needing 7 free throws. This was MJ's zone alone and even at this age, MJ's will, creativity and ability to improvise and stack the highlight reel were miles above the young'uns. Hoopsencyclopedia.blogspot.com

Michael Jordan 1991 Finals: Gm 5 Vs. LA Lakers, 30pts.

MJ sealed his first ring with yet another brilliant performance. While this version of MJ could have taken over an entire series with his athleticism alone, he put a lid on his individual superiority perhaps because he was too busy out-Magic-ing Magic's all-around game. MJ balanced his own dominance with a superb, team game that was reflected in his near triple-double numbers for the series. With beautiful drives, a faaadeaway at the end (this is what a true fadeaway is, not the turn-around shots that are mistakenly called fades today) and the mustard shot (although it did not count), MJ completed his last step to the top of the mountain from where he would remain forever. (The rest of this series is uploaded in succession except Game 2 which was uploaded last year. You can find it here www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBseRlgoSLc For the record, MJ would end the series with some preposterous numbers: 31.2ppg, 6.6 rebs, 11.4 assists, 2.8 steals, 1.4 blocks, 56.64% FG, 50% 3FG and 85% FT). hoopsencyclopedia.blogspot.com

Michael Jordan 2003: 35pts at age 40 Vs. Yao's Rockets

In the game prior to this against Indiana, MJ would suffer a severely bruised thigh which nearly put him on the injured list. However, with the playoffs still in sight, there was no such thing as injuries of course. I believe a teammate looked at the swelling in MJ's leg in shock and said, "You're going to play with THAT!?" To which MJ said, "Yes". And on it was against Yao's Rockets with the incredible, recent, ring-winner Posey getting the bulk of the 40-year-old-injured MJ for a 58% shooting night. Noticeably sliding on one leg, MJ's touch brought him into the zone while abusing the young Posey with his brains and will. But Houston clawed back to tie the game with an incredible run in the 4th where MJ would have to perform his miracle again. This time, his shot was a hair long so on it went to OT. Now, I was sure MJ's dead leg would render him a decoy in OT but as I should have known, an injured MJ is always a deadlier MJ since his will knows no boundaries. Going 5-5 in the last 3 minutes of OT to score all 10 points with several gorgeous fades, MJ incredibly managed to completely take over and dominate the game yet again for the nail in the coffin. It was absolutely stunning. (For the record, MJ would go 3-5 in game-winners as a Wizard with this game being one of his rare misses.) Hoopsencyclopedia.blogspot.com

Michael Jordan 1991 Finals: Gm 4 Vs. LA Lakers, 28pts.

MJ entered this game with a severely bruised toe which he suffered at the end of Game 3 on a miraculous clutch shot over Vlade Divac. Limited in overall mobility, one would have thought MJ would take more jumpers or resort to taking 10+ three pointers like most perimeters today. But of course not. MJ picked his spots and opponents and attacked the rim as usual with gorgeous, spectacular moves to the hole for maximum efficiciency and psychological damage to the other team. Shooting 11-20 and dishing 13 assists, it was a supreme performance on the greatest stage. In addition, he and Scottie switched on Magic throughout the game. With an intense LA crowd, MJ was in steely control with crisp passes to teammates, calm aggressiveness and confident poise. And as Marv caps it perfectly at the end, it's a good thing LA didn't see a healthy MJ that night. (The rest of this series is uploaded in succession except Game 2 which was uploaded last year. Michael Jordan 1987: 53pts Vs. Clyde's Portland Trailblazers

In the 80s, MJ was Air Jordan and this game was your typical showcase of his unique and unparalleled athleticism during his 37.1ppg year. With his supposed nemesis Clyde Drexler in town, MJ raised it up just a tad and basically took on the entire team by himself, bringing them back throughout the whole game for the win in the final minutes. With drive after drive, MJ was firing on all cylinders while earning his charity shots the hard way. Not one three point attempt was even taken here to break 50. Even more dominant perhaps in addition to his 20 buckets on 59% shooting was his defense. Covering the entire floor at all times, MJ was seemingly everywhere. Look at MJ going insane after having his block called a foul in the end with the game already in the bag with seconds left. That is the reaction of someone seeking supreme dominance. As Barkley said, MJ doesn't just want to beat you, he wants to win every play and dominate you so you'll never think the same way again. You can see MJ just looking to kill people on the drive whenever he had the ball and you never knew what shot or pass might be created in that moment. Thus was the joy of watching the master of improvisation in his athletic prime. hoopsencyclopedia.blogspot.com

Michael Jordan 1991 Finals: Gm 3 Vs. LA Lakers, 29pts.

After a rare, clutch miss in Game 1, MJ would redeem himself here to bring Game 3 into OT. The stunning shot over Divac's outstretched arms dropped even with MJ unable to follow through due to Divac's length. But it was MJ's clutch defense that truly saved the win - coming up with the crucial strip to prevent LA from taking a clean, game-winner to make sure OT would happen. As usual, making these types of clutch shots and defensive plays in these moments were the norm for MJ so it came as no surprise. And although this game would become the poorest shooting game of the series for MJ at just 11-28, the shots that mattered most in the end all hit nothing but net. Battling tendinitis in his legs, a Laker team at home ready to protect the fort and a twisted knee from the Pistons series, MJ still took it to the hole in the clutch to live up to his flair for the spectacular.
