The more we looked at various images that used this technique, the more we fell in love with the colours and decided that they should drive the aesthetic of the piece. In particular, we were intrigued as to what might happen if the two images were from drastically different sources. "The song is full of light and shade; with euphoric melodies and skipping glitchy beats. It seemed to us that themes of 'duality' ran through both the song and our visual idea. "We took those themes to our stylist, Justine Josephs who, along with our make-up artist Sally Marshall, created two opposing looks for our dancer, Claire Meehan. We spent a single day shooting in a South East London studio with Chris Nunn behind the camera and lights. "Finally came the edit and post-production process: We locked ourselves in the studio for 2 weeks working with After Effects. The process was pretty organic; we spent a week or so playing with the footage, developing different ideas and techniques, and then spent a further week moulding the disparate pieces into a solid video that ebbed and flowed in the right places." Insides is Hopkins first album in four years and debut for Double Six. Released on May 4th, the album is about strange contexts: natural, arcane textures welded to uneasy rhythms. Beautiful acoustic melodies set against jarring bass. Its an audacious record with a modernist lustre and magical aura all of its own. At an epic nine minutes in length, Light Through The Veins is a work of classic, hypnotic electronica. It draws the listener in with each pure, serpentine note, rises to a propulsive, euphoric climax, before finally dissolving into an ending of heartrending beauty and sadness. In fact, Coldplay were so taken with Light Through the Veins they used a reworked version to bookend last year's bestselling Viva La Vida and invited the 28-year-old Londoner to spend the last six months of 2008 opening their live shows across the USA and Europe. Jon Hopkins has co-written and co-produced the soundtrack for the forthcoming Peter Jackson film, The Lovely Bones, an adaptation of the book written by Alice Sebold, alongside Brian Eno.

Director/Editor/Post Production: Bison Producer: James Bretton Production Company: Blinkink Additional Camera: Chris Nunn How the video was made: We approached Jon with the idea for arm-mounted cameras a few weeks before the show, and luckily he was up for it, so we broke out the power tools and set about making some mounts: After dissecting a couple of tripods and orthapaedic elbow supports, we had a solid platform for the miniature cameras. We covered the gig with 5 cameras in total: 2 roving cameras, 1 static, and the 2 'lipstick' arm cameras that were wired into tape recorders at the back of the stage. The trickiest part was getting the cameras on and off Jon's arms whilst he continued to play as his set is more or less continuous.. The 'post production' on this video was unorthodox: All analogue and all in-camera. We were really keen on making a gritty, abstract performance video. So we set to work with magnets, screwdrivers, VHS tapes and a host of other techniques: We made an initial edit and played this back through a £3 TV we picked up at the local market, and 'manipulating' it with a screwdriver allowed us to flutter and flicker the image on screen. We'd also bought an industrial strength magnet and used that to distort and twist the picture on itself. We made several runs through the track in this way before playing everything out to VHS (with obligatory stomping and scrunching). This effectively gave us a new set of footage to make a tailored, grunged-up edit <b>...</b>
