Directed by Rik Cordero. Blue Chips is a project that allows me to give something back to all the people who have been supporting me during the last year. Party Supplies and myself linked up in the late fall and over the span of a few weeks created this project entirely off the cuff. FLOATING POOL LADY, HUNTS POINT
The opening of the Floating Pool Lady at Barretto Point Park in Hunts Point, 2008. Teens from The POINT CDC's ACTION program helped fight to bring the pool to Hunts Point, which was the only community district in NYC without a public pool. ACTION also then fought to bring public transportation to the Park, since it is at least 15 minutes from the nearest residents. An extension of the local Bx6 bus, which would have made the most sense financially, was not granted. However, a new shuttle service by the MTA ran from the subways to the pool on days the pool was open in the summers of 2008 and 2009. In 2010, the shuttle was canceled due to MTA budget cuts. Special thanks to Neighborhood Journal and Cablevision for allowing us to re-broadcast this story.

The new Uptown Girl Power mural at 825 Hunts Point Avenue was unveiled on Nov. 24, 2009 in the neighborhood of Hunts Point in the South Bronx. It is the first in a series titled Yes SHE Can sponsored by the Majora Carter Group. The murals aim not only to expand public art in Hunts Point, but to present positive images of women of color.

This is part 1 of an 18-min video made by ACTION 2005. It takes you through Hunts Point and shows you first hand what environmental racism looks like, by examining air quality and asthma in the area. PLEASE SET TO HIGH QUALITY Returning from New London, CT on board Amtrak Northeast Corridor Regional # 173. I started the video at Hunts Point Bronx right after the train passed the CSX Yard. I caught a CSX engine pulling a covered hopper. Then we start up the ramp acros the Bronx Kills over Randals and Wards Islands over the Hell Gate Bridge connecting onto the LIRR passing Sunnyside Yard and into the tunnel. HERE IS SOME HISTORY ON THE HELLS GATE BRIDGE: The Bridge was built in 1916, to link the Pennsylvania Railroad with the New Haven Railroad through New York City. The Bridge originally had 4 tracks. 2 for passenger trains, 2 for freight trains. 1 of the 2 freight tracks was abandoned in the mid 1970s. The Passenger tracks were electrified by overhead catenary in 1917, and the freight tracks from 1927 - 1969. PRR owned the Bridge from 1916 to 1968 when it merged with the New York Central system. Penn Central owned it from 1968 - 1976 when Amtrak took over. Amtrak owns the 2 electrified tracks and uses it for it's Northeast Corridor Line, the single freight track is owned by CSX Transportation. "Straight Outta Hunters Point", the award-winning Hip Hop documentary by Hunters Point filmmaker Kevin Epps is a stark cinematic portrait of a community struggling to stop the forces of gentrification -- denial of jobs, police brutality, environmental racism and more -- that have pushed 23 percent of San Francisco's Black population out of the City in the past decade. It has won the acclaim of critics and audiences at independent film festivals around the US, including Sundance and the Santa Fe Film Fest, where it was described as "a gritty, uncompromising film about the evolution and perseverance of a black culture in the shadow of poverty, race riots and gang-related rap wars." Drive-bys, drug peddling and heavy dealing, hot rodding, gun toting, pimping, hustling and rapping - and young people can see very few paths out. "Once that culture is bred, it's prevalent," says Kevin Epps, who has called Hunters Point his home for 30 years. Epps' film touches briefly on the period during World War II, when Hunters Point was the home of African American shipyard workers who migrated from the South with their families in search of better-paying jobs. After the war, when white men returned from the war front to take back their jobs, opportunities for blacks at the shipyard started to dwindle. The area soon became home to the city's poor, unemployed and unwanted. The documentary leaves audiences with the taste of despair that churns in the bellies of most residents.
