Aaron takes a look at the Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) update for the HTC Vivid on AT&T. New features include new font and design schemes, a new dock with the ability for custom folders, a few new applications, and a revised menu structure, among other things. It looks and feels like Ice Cream Sandwich (though it's strange to see the menu structure on something besides a Galaxy Nexus), and HTC's Sense receives a nice little bump to version 3.6. MobileBurn.com - The HP TouchPad may have left the factory running webOS, but that hasn't stopped developers from shoe-horning Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich onto it. The Cyanogen Mod team has been hard at work getting a version of Android 4.0 working on the TouchPad, and, for the most part, they have been successful. Though important things like the camera, microphone, and hardware-accelerated video (read: no Netflix or HD video playback) are not yet working, most everything else is, and if you use your tablet to read, browse the web, and handle email as I do, then Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich CM9 Alpha 6 certainly works well for that. Performance is quite impressive, even better than many of the official Android 3.x Honeycomb tablets that I have used. Apps open swiftly and panning around the homescreens has virtually no lag. Installing CM9 on the TouchPad might not be for the faint of heart, but if you have installed a custom ROM on an Android smartphone in the past, its certainly something that you can probably handle. Mangoes and Ice Cream Sandwiches are both delicious foods, but how do their web browsers compare? In this video we put Windows Phone Mango's Internet Explorer up against Android's Ice Cream Sandwich web browser. We use one of the first Ice Cream Sandwich Android phones available - the powerful Samsung Galaxy Nexus, and one of the newest Windows Phones - the Nokia Lumia 710. Both devices are connected to a WiFi network to give them a fair chance in terms of network speed so that we can get a better look at the actual performance of the browsers themselves. That and Verizon's LTE network is a bit unreliable at least for me on the Galaxy Nexus. It's also important to note that the Nokia Lumia 710 has a 1.4 Ghz single-core processor, while the Galaxy Nexus has a dual-core 1.2 Ghz processor.

Ice Cream Sandwich Galaxy S2 demo: Best features. The Samsung Galaxy S2 Ice Cream Sandwich update is now officially live in the UK. Available to all those with unlocked handsets, customers with the phone on subscription however will have to wait for their respective operator to start pushing it out. "Samsung UK can confirm that the roll out of Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) on Galaxy S II will be available from week commencing 19th March, however the availability of software upgrades in the UK will be dependent upon each network's own software approvals process," said the company on their Facebook page. Samsung have also announced that Ice Cream Sandwich updates for Galaxy Note. Galaxy II LTE, Galaxy Tab 8.9 and 10.1 will follow soon after. In addition, Samsung have released their own open-source version of Ice Cream Sandwich, intended only for European handsets. Ice Cream Sandwich is also expected soon to higher-end HTC phones and the recently released Sony Xperia S. The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is first phone to launch with Ice Cream Sandwich so far. For instructions: is.gd You can download and install a beta of CM9, which is Android 4.0.3 based, on your rooted Samsung Galaxy Note. In this particular ROM, most everything works except the camera, the battery status, and the S-Pen (although you can still use the pen as a plain capacitive stylus). The performance seems quite good, and all wireless radios work great.

UPDATE 3: Someone has managed to repeat the same test with similar set up. A Galaxy Nexus was first set up using his face and then repeated with a digital picture of his face on a Galaxy Note. As expected, he was able to unlock with his photo. www.youtube.com UPDATE 2: We're featured on TheNextWeb and Phandroid! Yet the question still arises on whether I had set up the device to recognise my face or a pciture of my face to do this demo. While some of you think that it is a trick and I had set the Galaxy Nexus up to recognise the picture, I assure you that the device was set up to recognise my face. I have a few people there watching me do the video and if any one of them is watching this video I hope you can confirm that this test is 100% legit. I would love to do this test again but I don't have a Galaxy Nexus, it is VERY hard to come by as it is not launched yet, but I urge anyone with a Galaxy Nexus to do the same test. Program the device to recognise YOUR FACE and then try to trick the same device with a similar looking picture, it will work. If anyone does do this test, please tell me so I can link it in this video. Once again people, I know it's just my words right now but this claim is LEGIT. As always, thanks for watching. TheNextWeb: thenextweb.com Phandroid!: phandroid.com UPDATE: Just to clarify, the Galaxy Nexus in the video was setup to recognise my real face and not the picture taken using the Galaxy Note. We've uploaded a new video answering some of the viewer's questions and showing off some more performance of the Xoom, Check it out here: www.youtube.com As with our previous video, this showcases ICS running on the Motorola Xoom Wifi and just how fast the tablets can be now that we have a proper OS running on it. It performs as fast as many of the "newer" tablets we see on the market today. We'll be keeping this channel up to date with the new builds being posted by razorbladex401. This install is not for the feint of heart as it is VERY possible that you can do irreversible damage to your device if you do not know how to properly do this procedure. Check out the full article here on our website: droidnerds.com We did NOT build this or compile this and take absolutely no credit for doing so, this was all done by XDA user razorbladex401 for which we are very thankful! One of the things we like most about Android is the ability to replace your launcher with a custom app. Doing so can let you personalize and customize your smartphone in ways that aren't possible with your stock launcher. These customizations can include speed and performance improvements, animation options, and changes to the layout of your apps and widgets -- not to mention giving it an entirely new look and feel. Many of the existing launcher apps are based on the stock launcher's code, with modifications to enable highly coveted features. Such is the case with Nova Launcher. Why wait until November for your official taste of Ice Cream Sandwich? It was just the other day when news hit about a working build of Ice Cream Sandwich being ported to the Nexus S, and while that's all well and good, just seeing the many photos wasn't enough. We wanted in on the action, too, because when we see a shiny new toy, we have to play with it. After spending a few long hours rooting and hacking our own Nexus S, we're happy to report that Operation Ice Cream Sandwich was a success. The current build we have running isn't complete, so some features, like Face Unlock, are unavailable. Still, there's plenty to explore, and man does the Google's new OS taste good.
