A timelapse of Planet Earth from Electro-L, a geostationary satellite orbiting 40000km above the Earth. The satellite creates a 121 megapixel image every 30 minutes with four visible and infrared light wavelengths. The infrared light appears orange in these images, and shows vegetation. The images were obtained beginning on May 14th, 2011 and end on May 20th. The images are the largest whole disk images of our planet, the resolution is 1 kilometer per pixel. The images are "masked" by a circular barrier that blocks out the light of the Sun and other stars. This is to prevent damage to the camera by exposure to direct sunlight. Jérémie Buchholtz wanted an affordable apartment in Bordeaux (he's a photographer who splits his time between Paris and Bordeaux so his budget was limited), but he wasn't finding anything he liked. Then he stumbled upon a listing for a garage. There was no house, it was just an abandoned garage for sale. And it looked like one. It had big metal doors that blocked out any sunlight and inside it was being used more as a junk room. So Buchholtz called his friend and architect Matthieu de Marien who specializes in converting stores, offices and other spaces into homes. De Marien took one look at the historic street and recognized it as something special. Passage Buhan is a private passageway where the owners each own half of the road so life extends into the street. And the history here is rich: a couple centuries ago, the laneway housed horses and their riders en route to the then city of Bordeaux and the old stable still sits on the street. Buchholtz bought the property and De Marien quickly cut into the old garage to create more light and ventilation. The roof is historic and couldn't be touched so he carved a 12 square meter (129 square foot) patio out of the small space, leaving only 41 square meters of living space (441 square feet). In order to make the space feel larger, De Marien created a "house within a house": one large piece of furniture that includes the bathroom, bedroom, office, closet, a sofa bed and all of the home's storage. Our lab at the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa has developed an optically controlled microrobot system. The microrobots consist of very tiny (0.1 to 0.5 mm in diameter) air bubbles inside of a fluid-filled chamber. Light is used to heat the surface of the chamber, which generates a force that moves around the microrobots. The microrobots can be used move around objects that are less than a millimeter in size. Here's a quick and easy empanada recipe that uses store-bought pie crust. The filling is vegetarian so it's a perfect picnic food or road trip food! Please Subscribe! youtube.com Facebook: facebook.com My Blog: hilahcooking.com INGREDIENTS * Premade pie crust * 1 (10 oz?) box o' frozen spinach, thawed and squeezed dry * 1 small potato, cooked and diced (about 1 cup) * 1/2 teaspoon salt * 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds * 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon * As much cheese as you can cram in, probably 1/2 ounce to 1 ounce per empanada * Extra flour for rolling DIRECTIONS Mix the filling ingredients together: spinach, potatoes and spices. Pull out your pie crust and unroll it on a lightly floured (and clean!) work space. Roll it out a little to thin it and increase the size by about half. Should be about 1/8 inch thick. Cut out 6″ circles by tracing a small plate or bowl -- you should get 6 circles. Put a couple tablespoons of your filling and a hunk of cheese on each circle, fold over, and seal with water and pinching. Put on an ungreased cookie sheet and bake at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 25-30 minutes. Cool completely and put them in some tupperwares to take with you for later enjoyment in some drunken state in the future. You're welcome.

At approximately 11.00 am on Wednesday, 6 April 1966, a class of students and a teacher from Westall High School (now Westall Secondary College) were just completing sports on the main oval when an object, described as being a grey saucer shaped craft with a slight purple hue and being about twice the size of a family car, was alleged to have been seen. Witness descriptions were mixed: Andrew Greenwood, a science teacher, told The Dandenong Journal at the time that he saw a silvery-green disc. According to witnesses the object was descending and then crossed and overflew the high school's south-west corner, going in a south-easterly direction, before disappearing from sight as it descended behind a stand of trees and into a paddock at The Grange in front of the Westall State School (primary students). This large size leptocephalus must be a species of Muraenidae (moray eels), and probably the larva of a long thin ribbon eel, which is metamorphosing, not feeding, and is entering shallow water to finish metamorphosis into a young eel. (Larva identified by Michael J. Miller) Leptocephali are the unusual transparent larvae of eels and their close relatives.
