AJ Foyt started on the pole, but as usual when he did that at Indianapolis, he failed to win, this time breaking down on lap 142. LAS VEGAS -- It was supposed to be a day of potential glory and fortune for Dan Wheldon as he had a chance to split a $5 million bonus with a fan if he could win Sunday's IndyCar World Championships at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Instead, it became one of the darkest days in the history of the sport as the two-time Indianapolis 500 winner was killed in a horrific crash on Lap 11. Wheldon, who won the Indy 500 in 2005 and 2011, was driving one of 15 cars involved in a fiery massive crash between Turns 1 and 2. His car went airborne and flew high into the fence before landing upside down on the edge of the wall. Wheldon's helmet hit the wall, causing an "unsurvivable head injury," said IndyCar CEO Randy Bernard, who announced Wheldon's death, at 33, just after 6 pm ET. The impact was so severe the roll hoop broke off the top of his car. Wheldon was unconscious when safety workers arrived at the scene of his crash. A yellow tarp was quickly placed over his car to block the others from seeing the damage inside his cockpit.

Dan Wheldon, Indy 500 Winner, Killed in Las Vegas Indy Car Race (16 Oct 2011) LAS VEGAS -- Indianapolis 500 winner Dan Wheldon died Sunday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway after his car became ensnarled in a fiery 15-car pileup on Lap 13, flew over another vehicle and landed in a catch fence just outside turn 2. The 33-year-old British racer was a two-time Indianapolis 500 winner, including this year's race. Three other drivers, including championship contender Will Power, were hurt in the pileup. Weldon was airlifted from the track to University Medical Center; about two hours later, his colleagues were told of his death. "IndyCar is very sad to announce that Dan Wheldon has passed away from unsurvivable injuries," IndyCar CEO Randy Bernard said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with his family today. IndyCar, its drivers and owners, have decided to end the race." In his honor, drivers took part in a five-lap salute around the oval. IndyCar has not had a fatality since Paul Dana was killed at Homestead in 2006. He died after a crash in a morning warmup. Sunday's wreck left Townsend Bell upside down while smoldering cars and debris littered the track nearly halfway up the straightaway of the 1.5-mile oval. The track was red-flagged following the accidents while crews worked on fences and removed smashed cars. The winner of this race, Dan Wheldon, was involved in the huge 15 car crash at Las Vegas motor speedway on October 16th, which caused him to get airborne and fly into the catch fence, with the cockpit area taking most of the impact. He was taken to a hospital, where medicals attempted to save his life. But he was later ultimately pronounced dead in the hospital. He passed away from severe internal injuries and it was impossible to save his life. The drivers that managed to avoid the crash remained at the speedway later arranged a 5 lap tribute drive to honour the death of Dan. Rest in Peace, it's a sad day for the racing world. In this video, i show you the differences between the graphic modes in Indianapolis 500 The Simulation and the differences between the 1989 PC release and the 1990 Amiga release. The game could be played in CGA, MCGA, Tandy, EGA and VGA. For playing on a TV, there is also a CGA Composite 16 color mode, but i wasn´t able to render any gameplay footage of it. I only grabbed a few seconds from the intro. I´m sorry for the Amiga Fans, i used a bad codec to record my playing on the WinUAE Emulator. But I can say the 3D graphics were exactly the same. Only differences were the sound, music, some artwork and a little mistake. They numbered car number 12 with number 20. Which means that there were two number 20 cars. This is the recap of qualifications for the 1973 Indianapolis 500. Credits go to SPEED and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. As you can see, the host segments for this episode of "Indy 500: The Classics" episode dealing with the 1973 race have been kept. In qualifications, Johnny Rutherford, who nearly won the pole in 1970, nearly became the first man to eclipse 200 MPH at Indy, turning a fast lap of 45.21 seconds, good for a lap speed of 199.071 MPH on his third qualifying lap. Ironically, Swede Savage's qualifying run, which had set a new qualifying record earlier on pole day and earned him the fourth starting position, is not shown on the speedway's official film of the race, the only driver that started on the first three rows not to at least be mentioned in the qualification segnment on the official film. This segmenat also focuses on the problems that two-time defending USAC champion Joe Leonard had in qualifying for the race, though he did make it. The same was true of the legendary AJ Foyt. Never before was he in so much danger of missing the race, though he also made it. By the way, the fatal crash of Art Pollard is not shown, as the coverage starts at the beginning of qualifications. Pollar's fatal crash, which was a precursor to events that happened in the race itself, occurred prior to qualifying. Again <b>...</b>
