Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes announced this afternoon that a grand jury has indicted Levi Aron on murder charges, hours after the city medical examiner ruled the death of eight-year-old Leiby Kletzky a homicide. Aron, 35, is facing a total of eights counts -- two counts of first-degree murder, three counts of second-degree murder, two counts of first-degree kidnapping and one count of second-degree kidnapping. He faces the maximum penalty of life without parole. The indictment was unveiled hours after the medical examiner ruled that Leiby died in the early morning of July 13 from an overdose of muscle relaxant, antipsychotics, pain medication and acetaminophen, followed by smothering. A New Jersey grand jury handed out a 15-count indictment against Dharun Ravi, 18, charging him with invasion of privacy, bias intimidation, tampering with physical evidence and hindering prosecution. If convicted of the most serious bias charge, Ravi could face five to 10 years in prison. According to the indictment, Ravi committed the "offense of invasion of privacy, with the purpose to intimidate" his roommate, 18-year-old Tyler Clementi "because of sexual orientation."
