Digital Inking - Faerie Stories Comic

Pencils by: Iwan Nazif jo2pa2.deviantart.com So this is just me digitally inking a page from a personal comic project of mine. I haven't really announced much about it yet, so this is sort of a sneak peek for you guys. I'll be announcing more about it soon at www.hueville.net For those interested in the process, I ink a bit strangely. I use the polygonal lasso in photoshop, make my selections and then fill with black. Of course making sure I'm on a new layer above the pencils. Also I always fade the lines out to a light blue to make them easier to ink over. Also, I'm not really this fast of course, I sped it up so you could see the whole piece being inked.

Drawing Skin Deep: Inking!

This is the longest step in my comics, but it's the most fun. I made this footage over a period of two days, and there's a big chunk in the middle where I was working away from home, so instead of my Cintiq, I was using my little Wacom Bamboo. You can tell which is which because when I am on my Bamboo you can see all of the various distractions I have on in the background, like ichat, twitter, and the internet. Feel free to ask questions! Photoshop Comic Inking Tutorial (WACOM)

*****READ THIS IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS. MAKE SURE ANNOTATIONS ARE ON***** REGARDING SMOOTH LINES: "I am actually just using the default brush (the first set in the brushes). The jagged look on your lines are anti-aliasing, and it makes your lines look much smoother. It shouldn't be visible when viewed at 100%. Here is a line at 300% (AA is visible): gitcomic.com Here is that same line, just viewed normally: gitcomic.com The only reason they look so smooth in the video is because it is zoomed out far. And the only reason they look jagged is when you are zoomed in close." This was requested by a reader a number of months ago. I was incredibly slow and kept procrastinating, but I have finally completed it. This are just my techniques, which are constantly changing. I am an amateur and continually trying to improve. If you have any suggestions I welcome them!! I hope that this might prove helpful. I use a Cintiq 21UX, but I occasionally use a Intuos 6x8 and the same skills translate. I am also running Photoshop CS3, but I think that inking is the same on most Photoshop programs. I have everything set to the default settings, except I put my pressure sensitivity one notch over to the firm side. Inking a Comic with Mike Cope's Hand

Watch the hand of Canadian cartoonist Mike Cope magically turn a pencil sketch into an inked cartoon character -- right before your very eyes! Featured in this video is Page 1 from the September 2009 episode of the comic "NetTrekkers," in which Patrick travels to the Canadian prairies during the annual wheat harvest. The original comic art is drawn on an 11"x14" sheet of Strathmore Bristol board (smooth finish). Prior to shooting this video, Mike Cope planned the text and page layout in Adobe Photoshop, and then rough sketched the panel illustrations using a regular 2H pencil. The inking process (seen here) is done using a combination of dip pens equipped with Hunt 102 and 513EF nibs from Speedball, and Winsor & Newton's Black Indian Ink. "NetTrekkers" is published in The Canadian Reader by LesPlan Educational Services Ltd. and is distributed to elementary schools across the country to help promote children's literacy. Each month's story is written by Canadian children's author, Vivien Bowers, and illustrated by Mike Cope. This video may be freely shared and distributed in its entirety for educational and/or entertainment purposes only.
