The iPad 2, like all of Apple's products, is a polarizing device; either you can live within its limitations or you cannot. There is nothing revolutionary found in the second iteration of the world's best selling tablet, but the evolutionary upgrades do augment an already solid offering. Are they enough to make you pry out the credit card though? Its A5 (Samsung built) dual-core system on a chip clocks in at around 800 MHz (although it is allegedly variable based on the applications being run) on each core and is augmented by 512MB of RAM (up from the iPad 1's 256MB). Any way you slice it, it's not a processing powerhouse, but it doesn't need to be. We're big fans of the Otterbox Reflex for the iPhone 4. It was rated as one of our current top favorite iPhone cases, offering a relatively slim design with great protection. So, when the Reflex for iPad 2 showed up, it demanded some immediate attention. The case is a two-piece shell that slides around the iPad 2. It also has second piece that goes over the iPad touch screen and acts as a detachable stand. The stand options work for both landscape and portrait upright viewing, and a lower typing angle. The shield is also translucent, which gives an interesting look when the LCD is activated. The iPhone 4 Reflex case featured innovative "crumple zones" that were designed to absorb the shock of a drop. The Reflex for the iPad 2, however, seem a bit different. While it does have some rubber molding around the edges, at first look doesn't seem to have the same give as the iPhone model. Like any Starbucks-drinking metrosexual urbanite worth his salt, I took a half day at work in order to play a few hours of Call of Duty get my ass to a Best Buy, hop in line, and ensure I copped the shiny, new piece of gadgetry. Two hours later, I had my hands on the next iteration of Apple's tablet. So is it worth the hype? That, my friends, is up for you to decide. Let's get the specs out of the way. The iPad 2 features: dual-core, 1 GHz A5 processors 512 MB of RAM 2 cameras ("VGA quality" front-facing, 720p rear-facing) Gyroscope 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB storage configurations To put this in perspective, the original iPad touted a single core, 1 Ghz A4 processor, half the amount of RAM, no cameras, no gyroscope, and same storage configuration. With these appreciable upgrades, Apple still managed to squeeze all those components into a 33% thinner, lighter, form factor than the original. In other words, it's pretty much a Jessica Simpson vs. Megan Fox battle going on here; one's a tad thicker and slower than the other, but you wouldn't feel embarassed holding either. Perhaps the most impressive feat of all is retaining the same phenomenal battery life. While Apple claims 10 hours of battery life, most reviewers found that during normal usage, battery life exceeded expectations. Still <b>...</b>
