Did you know that not all LCD monitors are the same? They come in many different flavors, ranging from TN, MVA, S-PVA, S-IPS, H-IPS, and some other variations. Here I am comparing the TN panels to the H-IPS panels, and showing the differences between a less expensive monitor and a semi expensive monitor. Well, I guess this is what I get for trying to cheap out on a nice IPS display. I was actually going to use this for video card reviews because of the nice 2560x1440 resolution. Was choosing between this HP ZR2740w 27" IPS Monitor (~$700) and the Dell Ultrasharp U2711 27" IPS Monitor (~$900) and I chose wrong. Just got this monitor in the mail today, got home opened it up, plugged it in, watched the Lakers/Knicks game (Lakers FTW) then what you see above happened the next time I turned on the monitor. White screen with vertical colored lines through it. I made this video for the RMA department since this is going back... Sorry guys, no review on this thing for you. Pretty obvious reason there. Why did I settle on this model, well how does 23-hour battery life sound to you? The Lenovo Thinkpad X220 promises that by combining a 9-cel battery (good for 15 hours) and an external battery pack (another 8 hours). It also has 1366 x 768 IPS display, 8GB of DDR3 RAM, and up to 2.7GHz Core i7-2620M CPU. I opted for the Core i5 2540M CPU, since this is the highest end of the i5 series. I still get hyperthreading and the battery benifits are greater then the i7. Since I'm all about being mobile, I don't think the power consumption difference is out weighed by the extra battery life of the i5 series and then there is heat increase when you head into the i7 range.
