Shocking video: Iran IL-76 plane crash filmed from C-130 Hercules

Previously-unseen video footage has surfaced online, allegedly showing the crash of an Iranian military jet at an air show two years ago. It captures the moment the Ilyushin IL-76MD military plane falls to earth and explodes, after a mid-air collision with F-5E Tiger II. The haunting video was filmed by the crew of a C-130 that was filming the refuelling of an F-4 Phantom II. The planes were taking part in the September 22, 2009 air show and parade just outside Tehran. All seven crewmembers on board the IL-76MD were killed in the crash. Official: Plane crashes in Pakistan; 121 people on board Islamabad, Pakistan (CNN) -- A commercial airplane carrying at least 121 people crashed Friday in Rawalpindi just before it was to land at an airport in Islamabad, according to Pakistan's Civil Aviation Authority, which cited poor weather as a possible factor. The Bhoja Air Boeing 737 was on its first flight from Karachi to Islamabad, authority spokesman Pervaz George told CNN, who said weather conditions in the capital were cloudy. Officials initially reported that 131 people were on board, but George later reduced that number. There were no survivors. The crash occurred near the Chaklala airbase, which the Pakistani air force uses, and is adjacent to the Benazir Bhutto International Airport in Islamabad. Debris was scattered across the crash site as workers sifted through the wreckage in the heavily populated residential area. The Bhoja airliner was flying from the southern seaport city of Karachi and crashed just before touching down, officials said. The crash site was about five aeronautical miles from the airport in Islamabad, authorities said. The flight had lasted roughly 3½ hours. Weather reports indicate conditions in the area included thunderstorms and limited visibility, according to CNN meteorologist Mari Ramos. Authorities are investigating what may have caused the crash and the potential for additional casualties at the crash site. Investigators are "going to be looking at technology," aviation ...

An Iran-bound Boeing 737 with 90 people on board crashed Sunday just outside the airport in Kyrgyzstan's capital, Bishkek, killing dozens of passengers, a government official said. The Boeing 737 crashed near the Bishkek airport in Kyrgyzstan on Sunday. The six crew members members survived the crash, Ramis Satybekov, an official from Kyrgyzstan's Emergency Situations Ministry. While he didn't have exact figures, he said roughly 60 passengers were killed and more than 20 people injured were taken to local hospitals, he said. Among the passengers was an Iranian airline representative, but his status was unknown, Satybekov said. Most of the 83 passengers were Iranian or Kyrgyz nationals. The crash happened near the US military's Manas Air Base, which is helping with the emergency response. Flight IRC6895 took off at 8:30 pm but turned around a few minutes later after experiencing "technical difficulties," a spokeswoman at Manas International Airport. The crash happened minutes later, said the spokeswoman, who would not give her name. The Aseman Airlines flight -- operated by Kyrgyzstan-based Itek Air -- was bound for Tehran, Iran. All Kyrgyz airlines -- including Itek Air -- have been banned from flying to European Union countries for failing to meet safety standards, according to an EU list published July 24. US Air Force Maj. Damian Pickart said Kyrgyz authorities asked Manas Air Base for support shortly after the Aseman jet crashed about six miles off the runway. "The ...

An Iranian airliner en route to neighboring Armenia caught fire mid-air and crashed in farmland on Wednesday, killing all 168 people on board in the worst air disaster in Iran in recent years. The plane had 153 passengers and 15 crew members," said Mohammad Reza Montazer Khorasan, head of the health ministry's disaster management centre. Among those on board the Tupolev were about 25 Armenians, according to an airline representative in Yerevan, while Iranian officials said they included 10 members of Iran's junior national judo team. "I saw the plane when it was just ... above the ground. Its wheels were out and there was fire blazing from the lower parts," witness Ablolfazl Idaji said, according to the Fars news agency. "It seemed the pilot was trying to land and moments later the plane hit the ground and broke into pieces that were scattered far and wide. "Iran's English-language Press TV quoted a witness from the site near the village of Janat Abad in the Qazvin province as saying that "the aircraft all of a sudden fell out of the sky and exploded on impact, where you see the crater.
