Québec History 5 - The End of the Iroquois Wars

Québec a Nation History (Part 5) The End of the Iroquois Wars The beaver wars, also called the Iroquois Wars or the French and Iroquois Wars, commonly refer to a brutal series of conflicts fought in the mid-17th century in eastern North America. Encouraged and armed by their Dutch and English trading partners, the Iroquois sought to expand their territory and monopolize the fur trade and the trade between European markets and the tribes of the western Great Lakes region. The conflict pitted the nations of the Iroquois Confederation, led by the dominant Mohawk, against the French. The Filles du roi or King's Daughters in English were between 800 and 900 Frenchwomen who immigrated to New France (now Québec) between 1663 and 1673 under the monetary sponsorship of Louis XIV, to marry and start families in an attempt to further populate New France. There exists an occasional misconception that many filles du roi were recruited from among the dregs of the population of Paris, and that many were prostitutes. This story, while untrue, comes about from the fact that a few Parisian prostitutes in the 17th century were arrested and transported to a penal colony in the Antilles islands.

Hiawatha - The Iroquois Nation - The story that began Democracy

The story of how the Iroquois Nation came into being. The American Indians had such spirit and heart that it is still our major key frequency here in the US. Just a little look back on how greatness comes when the old is surrendered and the higher order of peace and unification takes over. I grew up in this part of the country and my dear father hiked us up the Mohawk trail every year, though our bloodline is much watered down from our American Indian Ancestors - our hearts hold true.

Iroquois Style Raised Beadwork

If at first you don't succeed... My first attempts at this magnificent bead embroidery style developed by the Iroquois Nation people. Women of the Mohawk and Seneca tribes perfected this technique to achieve a thee dimensional look to their finished pieces. Some designs are as much as an inch high above the surface area. More beads than are required are used to form a "arch" over the pattern area. Getting it just right isn't as easy as it looks, as I soon discover. I'm hoping to learn this beautiful style from someone who knows and understands it. Are you out there, master?

Iroquois Lacrosse

This piece, "Iroquois Lacrosse" took 2nd place in the news category for Panasonic's 'Shoot It. Share It.' contest. Here is a note from the filmmaker: "This summer, the 2010 FIL World Lacrosse Championships were missing one team that made all the difference. The founders of the sport were held out of the competition due to politics. This story produced for US Lacrosse shared a small piece of the good that came out of a bad situation. Shot on a Panasonic-HMC150, the high quality HD footage made for great visuals in covering a fast-paced sport. Traveling light was a major key to success on this project. The best part was being able to use SD cards to capture 2-hour long games plus interviews without having to swap out. Using this effective camera and capture cards enabled quick turn-around for producing news stories each day on this 10-day international assignment."

Iroquois Nation Refuse US Passports

A group of American Indian Lacrosse players were denied entry into Britain for a Lacrosse tournament until this afternoon. As of now, they only have passports issued by their tribal federation, which the UK would not accept. While the British and US travel authorities say the team being detained should come as no surprise, the team thinks their passports should be recognized... as they are not United States citizens and vigorously assert their sovereignty from the US. The Alyona Show talks to Drew Bucktooth, one of the team members and asks why they don't want a standard US passport? Eventually, the players did get a waiver from Secretary of State Hillary Clinton which allowed the team to travel to Britain. But this leaves Alyona to ask, can the Iroquois continue to fight for their independence in a changing world?

UH-1H Iroquois / Huey

The Bell Helicopter UH-1 Iroquois, commonly (or officially in the US Marine Corps) known as the "Huey", is a multipurpose military helicopter, famous for its use in the Vietnam War. The UH-1 was developed from 1955 US Army trials with the Bell Model 204. The initial designation of HU-1 (helicopter utility) led to its nickname, Huey. The nickname became so popular that Bell started putting the Huey name on the anti-torque pedals.[1] The aircraft was first used by the military in 1959 and went into tri-service production in 1962 as the UH-1. The last were produced in 1976 with more than 16000 made in total,[2] of which about 7000 saw use during the Vietnam War. In Vietnam, 2202 Huey pilots were killed and approximately 2500 aircraft were lost, roughly half to combat and the rest to operational accidents.

The 1903 Iroquois Theater Fire - Chicago (HQ)

The Iroquois Theatre (Theater) Fire occurred on December 30, 1903, in Chicago, Illinois. It is the deadliest theater fire and the deadliest single-building fire in United States history. A total of 602 people died as a result of the fire. The theatre had three audience levels. The main floor (known as the "orchestra" or "parquet") was on the same level as the Foyer or Grand Stair Hall. The second level (the "dress circle") and the third level (the "gallery") were accessed through broad stairways that led off the foyer. The backstage areas were unusually large, with dressing rooms on five levels, an uncommonly large fly gallery (where scenery was hung), and even an elevator available to transport actors down to the stage level. The Iroquois was Chicago's newest and most polished theater, built by architect Benjamin Marshall, who had studied many fires over the years and had tried to make this particular building as safe as possible. The Iroquois was designed in the image of a famous Paris opera house, and the four-story structure contained elaborates stained glass windows and polished wood. The lobby of the Iroquois had a sixty-foot high ceiling and marble walls, and Marshall had put in as many as twenty-five exits that supposedly would allow a capacity crowd to escape any problems in less than five minutes. A curtain made of asbestos was supposed to be present, one that could be lowered from above the stage to protect the audience in case of a fire that started there. But ...

Iroquois Topstring Tutorial

For those asking for an Iroquois tutorial. I could put up pics if anyone is still confused. One thing I didn't add in the video; on all my Iroquois's I add a double nylon across the top mesh holes, if you look at my bottom string tutorial you will see what I mean. All it does is make it tighter and help define it but I reccomend doing it. Just got a webcam and I'm still getting used to angles, didn't get much sleep this weekend either so sorry for the awkward pauses. Audio seems to be off a little bit....not really anything I can do about it. Anyways hope this helps.
