I flew to the island of Molokai, it's a Hawaiian island next to Oahu. The canoe race itself is across a huge ocean channel, and it took around 5 hours for these athletes to canoe from one island to the next. I was blown away by the fact that they didn't stop at all, in the least bit. For each canoe racer, a motor boat had to follow next to them just to make sure they didn't get lost in the ocean, and someone from the motor boat would have to jump in the ocean and throw the canoe racers a water bottle as they got thirsty, since they had no time to stop. The race was the World Champion solo canoe race, so people from all over the world came to be a part of it. It was an awesome experience to experience it all. As far as the technical details go It was all filmed on a Canon 5D Mark II. He spent the day filming it with me, running his camera (Canon T3i). This video would not have happened if it wasn't for my friends Danielle Jensen and Tyce Jensen. They are the original creators of the modified trikes that were rode in the video. They even had a speedometer attached to the bikes they were riding, and they clocked in going 55mph down the road we filmed at, passing cars in the process. We shot this in a place called Powder Mountain Utah. As far as the sound design for this video, we actually didn't use a SINGLE piece of audio from the actual day of filming. For all the bike sounds and shoe noises, we recorded those the next day in a parking lot. I had my friends Scott Clarke and Ryan Faulkner help me record the audio for it. We recorded the sounds by getting a broken bike and throwing that against the cement for bike crash sounds. We then towed me behind a truck with my feet dragging against the cement to capture the same noises that were made the day of filming with the shoes skidding against the concrete. Flying in Slow Motion - Canon T2i 1000 fps

For this particular video, Jace Leroy was the main camera guy on it, then Kristen Hillier, and then I. This video was shot mostly with the Canon T2i, at 60 fps. A couple shots were done with the Canon 5D, and one shot was done with the GoPro Hero camera. You can buy more about GoPro cameras in their official website below. www.GoPro.com I used After Effects to re-render the frame rate to make it play much slower then 60fps. I used an effect called "Time Warp". A lot of people have sent me messages asking me what settings I used with "Time Warp" in after effects, and this isn't a question I can totally answer because I just did it by trial and error. Each video clip I just had to play with each of the settings to adjust what looked best. It took me 4 days of figuring this out. The bottom line was just experimenting with what looked best, and then waiting forever for it to render out. For sound design I experimented with sound effects of cameras, war sounds, and I used the original "landing on the moon", because I felt that best conveyed flight. Also, an interesting other thing, the composer Stephen, he took another song he had did that had lyrics, and he super slowed the song down for this piece, then he altered it to <b>...</b>

I helped shoot a music video with Devin Graham - www.youtube.com check out and subscribe to his EPIC channel - and Jace LeRoy for the hip hop group Can't Stop Won't Stop last summer. You can see Devin and Jace filming with their cameras in some of my shots :) This is something I edited together a couple months before the real music video was released with the footage from my camera just to see how the shots cut together. Without question the most scenic. It's also the main location in Oahu where Hollywood movies are filmed. Such movies as Jurassic Park, 50 First Dates, Godzilla, Wind talkers, Pearl Harbor Mighty Joe Young and even a great deal of the TV show LOST was filmed here. It' also a huge tourist attraction where, as you can see, you can horseback ride, sail boat, 4 wheel, movie bus tours, jungle expedition, boat cruise, dinner, the list goes on :) It really is honestly the most photogenic place in all of Oahu. And by the way, I'm not paid to say that :) I actually did this video for free, there was no money involved. And I did it just because I love the location. The staff at Kualoa ranch were super awesome/helpful to work with when filming this, super accommodating, and they helped with what we needed to get the shots we wanted. I would for sure reccomend this place to ANY PHOTOGRAPHER, or anyone who wants an escape from the everyday world! I really think this place is one of Hawaii's best kept secrets. I shot this in order to play around with new color correction software. There was zero planning. I dragged my roommate and his chemical suit out into the middle of nowhere and filmed this on a Canon 2Ti. Natural light was the only light source.
