Erroll Garner Plays Flamingo by Grouya & Anderson (Lyrics)

This is the distinguished Mr. Erroll Garner playing a favorite standard from the American Songbook. "Flamingo" is its name and it was popularized among many others by Duke Ellington with the very versatile baritone vocalist Herb Jefferies. I remember an instrumental version of it playing frequently on KSEA, Seattle's "just beautiful music" station when I was growing up in the 60's and 70's. This particular recording of Mr. Garner's inimitable rendition was released by Atlantic in 1949. Accompanying the skilled pianist is Leonard Gaskin on bass and Charlie Smith on drums. Lyrics: Flamingo, like a flame in the sky Flying over the island To my lover nearby Flamingo, with your tropical hue For it's you I rely on And the love that is true The wind sings a song to you as you go The song that I hear below The murmuring heart Flamingo, when the sun meets the sea Say farewell to my lover And hasten to me
