WIG - Wing in Ground Effect

A Wing In Ground-effect vehicle (WIG), is a vehicle that cruises little more than a few feet over flat surfaces, most often water. It can be seen as a transition between a hovercraft and an aircraft. As it flies just above a surface, it is also classified as WISE or WISES (Wing In Surface Effect Ship). WIGs are also classified as Ground Effect Vehicles, or Sea Skimmers. The IMO has classifed the WIGs as ship, with effect of (GEV).[1] In conventional aircraft, "flare" is the rotation of the aircraft's nose up, used at the final part of landing to arrest the descent rate before touch down. In WIG vehicles, this is the basic attitude to sustain level flight. See also: en.wikipedia.org

Airbus A380 Super Jumbo #003 Delivered to Singapore Airlines

Singapore Airlines takes Delivery of the first Airbus A380 15.10.2007. Singapore Airlines took delivery of the world's first A380 at Airbus headquarters in southern France. The handover took place at the Henri Ziegler Delivery Centre, Toulouse, at a ceremony attended by over 500 people, and officiated by Chief Executive Officers Tom Enders (Airbus), Sir John Rose (Rolls-Royce) and Chew Choon Seng (Singapore Airlines). The A380 is the largest passenger plane ever built and the first completely new design of a passenger aircraft in decades. Components have been built in plants around the world before being brought together for assembly at key Airbus facilities in Europe. Final assembly took place in Toulouse, France, while the painting of the livery and installation of the aircraft cabin took place in Hamburg, Germany.

How Aircraft Carriers Work

When the plane is ready to go, the catapult officer opens valves to fill the catapult cylinders with high-pressure steam from the ship's reactors. This steam provides the necessary force to propel the pistons at high speed, slinging the plane forward to generate the necessary lift for takeoff.
