Swamp Pop Music is alive and well as demonstrated by the large and enthusiastic crowd that attended the Swamp Pop Reunion VI Monday, March 7! The City of Ville Platte hosted its annual event for the benefit of the Louisiana Swamp Pop Museum, which opened in our community last fall. This musical extravaganza brought hundreds of visitors from throughout Louisiana, as well as Texas, Alabama, Wyoming, and even the Netherlands! Many thanks go to the corporate sponsors - CLECO, Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter #632 and its AVVA associates, Pig Stand Restaurant, KVPI Radio Oldies 92.5, Cabot Corporation, CenturyLink, Cameron, Citizens Bank, Hancock Bank, Evangeline Tourism Association, Woodmen of the World, Evangeline Bank and Guaranty Bank. What a historic event to have so many of these legends in one place at one time -- Rod Bernard, VJ Boulet, Austin Broussard, Roy Chaffin, Guitar Gable, Jivin' Gene, TK Hulin, Charles Mann, Tommy McLain, Jerry Raines, Jay Randall, GG Shinn, Warren Storm, Willie Tee, Kenny Tibbs, and Charles Veillon, backed by the fantastic group, "Cypress" with Earl Taylor and Mike Vice sitting in with the band. A special treat was a reunion appearance of "The Original Boogie Kings" composed of Doug Ardoin, Bert Miller, WJ Dugas, Jeff Fournet, Sidney Janise, Bryon Launey, Bryan Leger, Steve Morrow, Mike Pollard, and Tommy Joe Richard. In their 50-plus years of playing together, they've never sounded better! Thanks to: •Ville Platte Mayor Jennifer Vidrine ...
