JBOD, explained

A video that looks into how JBOD works. JBOD, meaning "Just a Bunch Of Disks", "Just a Bunch Of Drives", or, as a recursive acronym, "JBOD's a Bunch Of Disks", is used to refer to two distinct concepts: * all disks being independently addressed, with no collective properties each physical disk, with all the logical partitions each may contain, being mapped to a different logical volume: just a bunch of disks. * concatenation, where all the physical disks are concatenated and presented as a single disk.

ICY BOX IB-3218 - Compact external JBOD subsystem

Double HDD enclosure at the price of a single solution. The proven JBOD and One Touch Backup technology, like you already know from the IB-3220 and the fresh and more compact Design offers the new double HDD enclosure of ICY BOX. Whether you equip the enclosure with one or two HDDs, never mind, because as elegant expandability, without buying a second external enclosure, you found an interesting price alternative. Connecting two HDDs by only one USB cable, finished with overcrowded USB ports and unclear cable tangle. The protection of your data will be made by only one finger tip after the provided software was installed. In short, a small power station, that guarantees an appropriate working environment to your HDDs owing to full aluminium enclosure and additional fan.

Thecus® N5500 multiple RAID Setup (Part I)

Thecus® N5500 multiple RAID Setup (Part I) With the latest AJAX web management interface on N5500, users can easily setup 2 sets of RAID volume on one NAS system Thecus® N5500 provides the one-and-only multiple RAID function, allowing more than 1 set of RAID volumes on one NAS system. For this video tutorial, a JBOD and a RAID 5 are configured on N5500. JBOD has no data protection but provides quick access for less important data such us some working files. The RAID 5 has high level of data protection but requires a bit more time during access. It can be used to store important data such us complete tasks. Flexibility on Thecus® brings convenience to a whole new level.

Re: Mac vs. PC: Hot Swappable RAID's

Finally, it's finished. My video reply to Applesoldiers video about his hotswappable RAID. His video can be viewed here: www.youtube.com In his video he show us that he has a RAID in his Mac Pro. He says nothing about what kind of RAID he's using, and if he's using software RAID or Hardware RAID. Since the hardware RAID option for the Mac Pro costs $700 I assume he was running software RAID. Otherwise he would at some point shown us a RAID-card in the Mac Pro. In his description field he has written: "Can you, OUT OF BOX, Make a RAID 1, RAID 0, RAOD 1+0 for speed and redundancy, or RAID JBOD? If you never heard of JBOD, google it. OSX can do this OUT OF box without additional hardware. can yours?" My reply to that is YES. OSX software RAID supports RAID0, RAID1 and JBOD. But not RAID1+0 like you're implying. Windows XP Pro supports RAID0 and JBOD out of the box. And most motherboards has RAID-funcionality built-in. My old Hackintosh supports RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5, RAID 1+0 and Intel Matrix Storage technology. (Asus P5LD2 Motherboard from late 2006.) And again. Applesoldier did not say what RAID configuration he was using. I know he wasn't using RAID5. He has 3 drives in his Mac Pro. 1x500GB and 2x250GB. His RAID shows up as a 1000GB HDD. RAID5 would show up as 500GB, because it is limited to the capacity of the smallest drive. And you also "lose" the capacity of one drive, because of the parity bits. So either he was using RAID0 or JBOD. He mentions JBOD in his <b>...</b>

D-LinkTV DIY #94 2-Bay Network Storage Enclosure (DNS-321)

Mike guides you through the installation process of the D-Link 2-Bay Network Storage Enclosure (DNS-321). The D-Link® 2-Bay Network Storage Enclosure (DNS-321) is the perfect way to store, share, and safeguard your documents, music, videos, and photos. With the D-Link tool-less installation, easily insert up to two SATA drives1 without any tools or attaching any cables. Additionally, the built-in UPnP™ AV media server enables streaming of digital content to compatible network media players (such as those found in the D-Link MediaLounge™ product line) as well as popular media player applications used in computers. PROTECTION AND PERFORMANCE The availability of four different hard drive modes (Standard, JBOD, RAID 0, and RAID 1) allows you to choose the configuration best suited for your needs. Standard mode creates two separately accessible hard drives. JBOD combines both hard drives into one for maximum space efficiency. RAID 0 combines all drives in a striped configuration, splitting data evenly across the hard disk drives to provide the highest performance, while RAID 1 causes the drives to mirror each other, providing maximum protection. If one drive fails while configured as RAID 1, the unaffected drive will continue to function as a single drive until the failed drive is replaced. SIMPLIFIED MANAGEMENT With the included feature-rich backup software, you can create schedules and rules including real-time full or incremental backups. The Web-based configuration <b>...</b>

Mac vs. PC: Hot Swappable RAID's

Follow me on twitter: www.twitter.com www.twitter.com Visit my Web Site and Blog: www.finalcutstudioschool.com Appleshakeguru channel www.youtube.com I know PC IS ABLE TO USE RAID but can you do hot swappable RAID and have the array rebuild on the fly? My point isn't that PC's CAN'T do it, but that a $1000 machine is very very unlikely to be able to. The hardware for RAID used in the Mac Pro's costs like half the budget of that $1000 PC meaning you'd need serious cutbacks on other components for that functionality with the same budge. Lets see Adobepc's custom $1000 dollar build do this. Meaning HOT SWAPPABLE. Or how about a 1000 dollar dell? CAn you do this without additional hardware? Can you, OUT OF BOX, Make a RAID 1, RAID 0, RAOD 1+0 for speed and redundancy, or RAID JBOD? If you never heard of JBOD, google it. OSX can do this OUT OF box without additional hardware. can yours?
