Jetman Yves Rossy Loops 11/5/2010

More at: www.avweb.com The man you're watching is fifty-one-year-old Yves Rossy, also called Jetman, for reasons that should be obvious. In 2006, he became the first person to fly with custom-made composite wings on his back powered by four small jet engines. This footage, shot Friday, November 5, 2010, is proof that he's now the first man to perform aerobatics and loop in the rig. video by Glenn Pew www.glennpew.com for http

Amazing Video: 'Jet Man' stunts alongside fighter jets over Alps

Amazing pictures from Switzerland show where "jetman" Yves Rossy gave this incredible flying display, using a tailor-made jet pack. The aviation enthusiast leapt from a helicopter and performed a series of aerial acrobatics above the Alps. He then joined two jet planes in a synchronized flight. To synchronise their flight paths the jets reduced their speed to 220 kilometres per hour (137 miles per hour), which put their engines at a point close to stalling. Rossy's previous aerial feats include flying the English Channel and looping the loop around a hot-air balloon. RT on Twitter: twitter.com RT on Facebook: www.facebook.com

Live Yves Rossy - Yves "Jet Man" Rossy English Channel Crossing - Swiss Jet Man - Jet-man: Human Powered Flight

www.JetManBlog.com About the Movie with Yves Rossy DOVER, England - A Swiss daredevil crossed the English Channel strapped to a homemade jet-propelled wing Friday, parachuting into a field near the white cliffs of Dover after a 10-minute solo flight. Yves Rossy leapt from a plane at more than 8800 feet, fired up his jets and made the 22-mile trip from Calais in France. Rossy passed over a thin strip of land in front of South Foreland lighthouse, looped over onlookers and opened his parachute, his wings still strapped to his back. "It was perfect. Blue sky, sunny, no clouds, perfect conditions," he said. "We prepared everything and it was great." The trip across the Channel is meant to trace the route of French aviator Louis Bleriot, the first person to cross in an airplane 99 years ago. The lighthouse was the site of Guglielmo Marconi's experiments with radio telegraphy in 1898. Bleriot used the white building as a target during his pioneering flight, the building's manager, Simon Ovenden, said. Several hundred spectators rushed to greet the pilot, trying to take photographs with cameras and cell phones. "It's a remarkable achievement, we saw the climax of his attempt as he came down to earth with his parachute. It's been an exciting afternoon," said Geoff Clark, a 54-year-old onlooker from Chatham, in Kent. The carbon composite-wing weighs about 121 pounds when loaded with fuel, and carried four kerosene-burning jet turbines that kept him aloft. The wing had no steering ...

Swiss Man Soars with Jet Wings

CHEN: And a man known as "Fusion man" was sent out of a plane at 8000ft with his wing folded. Let's take a look at this new super-hero type invention. STORY: It looks like a small plane but take a closer look. In fact it's a flying man. Yves Rossy has a jet powered wing strapped to him and he's reaching speeds of 300 kilometers an hour. The Swiss airline pilot has spent five years preparing for this trip high in the Swiss mountains. He got airborne by free-falling from a plane at two and half thousand meters. He then deployed his wings and began his flight, doing loops and figures for the watching media by steering with his body. He landed 10 minutes later by deploying a parachute and folding the wings safely away. [Yves Rossy, aka "Fusion Man"]: "I feel such happiness, an extraordinary sense of fulfillment to have once again been able to fly while people are watching. It's one thing to do it on your own but to be able to share it live like today, that's extraordinary." Rossy landed safe and well along with his extraordinary wings. He now plans to show off his skills at various events over the next few months and attempt to cross the English Channel in the autumn.

Jet-Man - Yves "Fusion Man" Rossy 2006 Early Prototype - Jet-man: Human Powered Flight

www.JetManBlog.com About the Movie with Yves Rossy Man, forever obsessed with the dream of flying; Icarus' myth, tried time after time to fly like a bird. The best ever achieved are flying machines in which men lock themselves in, created by some of mankind's greatest pioneers in this area. Over the past decade, whilst still keeping the idea of flying like a bird in mind, various flying apparels were imagined and created such as hanggliders, paragliders, and gliding wingsuits. All of these use the various air currents to fly on and with. However, no-one will ever forget the human who could actually fly and who appeared on earth in 1939. This man could jump and fly through the air at whatever chosen moment: Batman... the Cartoon character created by Bob Kane. Today, Batman can leave behind his cartoon books and movie theatres and fly above the Swiss Alps, this person is Yves Rossy. He has finally achieved Leonardo Da Vinci's greatest fantasy and can fly through the air! Following a long line of predecessors, this Swiss man, who's lifetime passion is flying, once flew for the Swiss army at the controls of the Mirage III, then went on to fly as captain on Airbuses, and now has not only created and developed wings which allow him to fly, but also built and personally tested them over the past 7 years. Finally, and this since last Autumn, his dream became reality mainly because of 4 model-engines which were built under his wings. With these, he can fly at over 200km/hr and ...

Yves Rossy The Swiss Jet Man - Early PrototypeTesting - Jet-man: Human Powered Flight

www.JetManBlog.com About the Movie with Yves Rossy ENGLISH TRANSLATION HERE The Jet Man, Yves Rossy, a former Swiss military pilot, designed and built a deployable 3-meter wing, holding kerosene fuel for 2 jet engines (as of May 2008 FOUR turbines on a 2.5m wing!!) fixed to the tips and attached it to his back. Rossy launched from an airplane and flew for 4 minutes, traveling over 100 mph, landing by parachute. www.jet-man.com OK here's my attempt at translation (if you can, please correct!): 00:16 (VIDEO START) 00:20 (German) Further, further away from the car 00:22 Yes 00:24 (French) Towards the drain 00:25 There? 00:26 Yep 00:33 ('SCOTLAND THE BRAVE' RINGTONE) 00:48 So, the idea is, as we see here, there's the fuel, the smoke cartridges, and the jet engines underneath, for horizontal flight. 01:00 In fact, the Flying Jet Man, that's the idea. And to do that we've developed this folding wing, taking into account the space available in the plane, because we don't have much space. A wing of 3 meters would not fit in the plane without being folding. 01:19 It's nearly a mini-airplane, except that, well, I'm the fuselage. So there's fuel, batteries, gas for starting the jet engines, oil is in the kerosene for lubricating the engine. I have a little handle for moving the ailerons so I can go up and down, so I've got all the controls just like a plane, and like I said I'm the fuselage with two jet engines up my backside! 01:56 The goal - horizontal flight. That's it. 03:08 ...

GE90-115B Gas Turbine Jet Engine Testing & Evaluation

GE90-115B Gas Turbine Jet Engine Testing and Evaluation I takes a lot of money and time to test as thoroughly as the FAA, military, and GE require. More money and time and lives are saved by finding most problems before they become much larger. Some claim US gas turbine aircraft engines can't take turbulence or odd angles of attack. The claim is clearly false, if you note the shot of the crosswind testing fans. The crosswind fans can simulate hurricane winds at any angle. The fan and the engine can be pivoted to simulate any angle. Typically it is some former soviet block people that make those claims. They think just because they carelessly showboat fighters at air shows doing extreme AOA, that they are the only ones that can do so. The fact is that we don't make a habit of showboating at air shows because it is risky. The former soviet block has crashed a lot of fighters showboating extreme AOAs. The fact is any time you move a gas turbine with reverse airflow your risk of a flameout increases dramatically. The exhaust can recirculate back into the intake the result can be a backfire or flameout or just reduced power; all can be fatal if you are flying with no margin of error at an air show. Normally; US pilots are told to avoid doing things that can cause cavitation or recirculation, particularly wile airborne. They are tested at higher altitude in remote areas to give a good chance of recovery, and restart, and if nothing else ejection. There are some exceptions ...
