Changchun the Detroit of China
Charles Chaw, producer of 6 episodes "Inside China Next Powerhouse", presents the opportunities of Northeastern China. In this Part 1 of fourth episode: Changchun, this city is the provincial capital of Jilin Province, which is a traditional agriculture belt, famous for its bountiful harvests of corn. Changchun, literally means "a long period of spring." Changchun however is more famous for its automobile industry. More than any other Chinese city, Changchun's fate is closely tied to its automobile industry. Some 70% of the city's industrial output is tied to this industry. Changchun is aptly known as the "Detroit of China." First Automotive Works, or FAW Group, is the backbone of Changchun's automobile industry. It is also China's largest automobile manufacturer. Three years after it was founded with the help from the Soviet Union, in 1956. The company rolled out its first product, the truck branded as "Jiefang", or liberation. The Jiefang truck was also the first vehicle made entirely in China and proved that Chinas could make its own vehicles. Soon, FAW expanded into passenger cars, and the Hongqi, used exclusively as the sedan for the country's leaders, became the flagship model. With the prestige accorded to it, the Hongqi was the pride of FAW, and FAW, the pride of China. Under the central planning economic system, the city was designated as the key automobile production base. The Hongqi brand heralded Changchun's status as China's automobile city.

The red truck was used at LEGOWorld Copenhagen this year. It has a lot of problems, especially when it comes to robustness and grip. GM Shows Chevrolet EN-V 2.0 Mobility Concept Vehicle BEIJING -- General Motors showed the company's vision of the Chevrolet EN-V 2.0 concept at Auto China 2012 today. It is an evolved design of the company's revolutionary mobility concept revealed at World Expo 2010 Shanghai. "Our designers and engineers are exploring a range of options for turning the EN-V concept into a reality," said Kevin Wale, president and managing director of the GM China Group. "The EN-V 2.0 concept would use technologies such as the mobility Internet, electrification and telematics to help change the automotive landscape and ensure a sustainable future for our industry," The original EN-V (Electric Networked-Vehicle) concept was a centerpiece of the SAIC-GM Pavilion at World Expo 2010 Shanghai. The two-seat electric vehicle pioneered a new automobile DNA based on the convergence of electrification and connectivity. It was developed to show the possibilities for alleviating concerns surrounding traffic congestion, parking availability, air quality and affordability for tomorrow's cities. "Without the Communist Party, There Would Be No New China" (traditional Chinese: 沒有共產黨就沒有新中國; simplified Chinese: 没有共产党就没有新中国) is a very popular song in the People's Republic of China, which originated in 1943. With english subtitles. During World War II when China was fighting the Japanese invasion, Chiang Kai-shek published a book titled The Destiny of China (traditional Chinese: 中國之命運; simplified Chinese: 中国之命运) on March 10, 1943, with a slogan that "without the Kuomintang there would be no China." The Communist Party of China published an editorial entitled "Without the Communist Party there would be no China" in the Jiefang Daily (Chinese: 解放日报) on August 25, 1943 to criticize the book, concluding that "if today's China had no Communist Party of China, there would be no China." In October 1943, Cao Huoxing (zh:曹火星), a 19-year-old member of the Communist Party of China, created the lyric for "Without the Communist Party There Would Be No China", based on this. In 1950, shortly after the foundation of the People's Republic of China, Mao Zedong changed the title to "Without the Communist Party, There Would Be No New China," by adding the word "new."
