The Tao of Jeet Kune Do
The Tao of Jeet Kune Do Film Presented by Alessandro Sorbello www.alessandrosorbello.com The Tao of Jeet Kune Do is a book expressing Bruce Lee's martial arts philosophy and viewpoints. It was published posthumously (after Bruce Lee's death in 1973). The book was not written by him; instead it was assembled by various people based upon a core set of writings and disparate notes that were left behind after Lee's death. The project for this book began in 1970 when Bruce Lee suffered a back injury during one of his practice sessions. During this time he could not practice martial arts. He was ordered by his doctors to lie flat on his back for 6 months in order to recover from his injury. This was a very tiring and dispiriting time for Lee who was always very physically active. It was during his convalescence that he decided to compile a treatise on the system or approach to martial arts that he was developing; which he called Jeet Kune Do. The bulk of these writings would become the "core set of writings". Many of these writings were done during a single session which provided natural continuity. Lee had also kept various notes throughout the development of his combat philosophy and these would become the disparate notes used in the book. Many of these notes were "sudden inspirations" which were incomplete and lacked any kind of a construct. The combination of the "Core set of writings" and the "disparate notes" would be known as the text "The Tao of Jeet Kune Do". In 1971 <b>...</b>

Basic Jeet Kune Do Fighting
Most of the foundational fighting strikes and theory if Jeet Kune Do or Way of the Intercepting Fist. The whole extended arm this is something I added on the spur of the moment. Its not really JKD to extend the front hand like that. You also have to worry about it getting punched and broken hand bones or kicked and grabbed. It can be used in sparring and against untrained or very low level fighters. Just be aware of the pros and cons and experiment.

Five counters to the 1,2 (jab, cross) are shown slowly on the focus mitts, then at speed. This is a JKD method of training- work the JKD techniques, then perform them on the mitts. Then, of course, apply them in street-specific JKD sparring. I was taught the 1,2 series by my mentor Sifu Dan Inosanto. This was shot for a DVD series of Sifu Larry Hartsell's Jun Fan JKD Grappling Association.

Jeet Kune Do (JKD) is the martial art created by Bruce Lee (Li Jun Fan/Siou Lung). JKD or Way of the Intercepting Fist may be classified as a form of modern martial art. Although Jeet Kune Do is primarily inspired from Chinese gung fu, Western fencing and boxing it is more accurately, Bruce Lee's martial art. Lee felt that a real fight was unpredictable and that most classical styles emphasized dead patterns instead of live and spontaneous training. Lee also came to the conclusion the MA was Universal and that "unless there is a being with more than two arms and two legs, that there is only one style of fighting, the human style". So, Lee conceptualized martial art as a whole and embarked upon a scientific course. Not one that blended styles but one that was born of the idea of non-style, geometry and physics. One as he described as "simple, direct and non-classical". At the same time that Lee was creating his martial art he was also very much into philosophy. One source of philosophy was Zen. One of the primary tenants of Zen is detachment or more clearly, non-attachment. The tenant of non-attachment can be a paradox for most. However for Bruce Lee, it may have been the perfect vehicle of understanding (enlightenment) that he needed to create his Jeet Kune Do. While non-attachment is a mental state, non-engagement is its physical counterpart. In the sense of fighting attachment or engagement imputes struggle. So with non-engagement through the use of physical science <b>...</b>
