Weller vs. Rezazadeh, 2000 Olympics - CJ

The conclusion, note that Weller cleans the weight needed to take gold -but barely misses the jerk.

Going for his 4th straight Gold medal, Dimas comes oh so close on his 3rd and final attempt. He won Bronze, and a 15 (yes, 15) minute standing ovation from the home crowd.

This epic battle between two great SHW - Weller overcame so much just to get back to these games, and he ended up competing in 5 olympic games.

Kuznietsov had already secured the gold in the 100kg. weight class and went for history by attempting a world record 243kg.

"Gravity takes a vacation" a 210kg snatch at 110kg bodyweight to obliterate the world record at the 1988 Olympic Games. One of the sports all time best.

Before "Pocket Hercules" could put a 3rd consecutive gold medal around his neck - he had to battle lift-for-lift with Valerios Leonidis. Lost in all of the amazing feats of Niam was Valerios - who C&J'ed 187.5kg and nearly cleaned 190kg! But history often forgets second place.

This giant, one of the tallest Olympic lifters of all time, hoists 207.5kg - he went on to win the Bronze medal.

The great Redding with a mighty Clean and Press of 502lb. for a new world record. However, this would stand for a mere 3 minutes (see Alexeev 230kg. Press)

Patera, in the shadows of Redding and Alexeev, lifts an impessive 212.5 - with plenty of squat to spare.

Classic weightlifting, Kurlovich's dominance was incredible. Also includes a brief story about Taranenko's turbulant weightlifting career.

The conclusion of the SHW competition with Kurlovich holding a massive 17.5kg lead after the snatch.

A great competition with young Taner Sagir at the head of the class, the youngest ever Olympic champion in Weightlifting.

At only 110kg. bodyweight, Zakharevich gives a go at a massive weight of 251kg. Truly one of the best!

Vasily with the last lift breaks Redding's record of 228kg. Notice the knee bend right before the press, looks to me a no-lift. Nonetheless, a new world record for Alexeev.

After bombing out in the snatch, Ramunas hits this 225kg. C&J in the 105kg class to win Silver in the C&J. Also, one of the best celebrations I've seen in Weightlifting!

Guozheng hits a big 160kg snatch to set up this C&J attempt to win Gold in the 69kg. class.

For 1st place overall and $2500 on the line, Yukio attempts a big 189kg clean & jerk as an 77kg lifter. 100% badass! Yukio edged out Chad Vaughn by only 1kg! Exciting stuff.

One of my favorite lifters of all time, this 69kg. lifter dominated the class for many years. The snatch is 162.5kg and the C&J is 187.5kg.

A big lift for a big woman (Bodyweight =164.57kg) Olha hits this 133 for a new European Record.

Ramunas didn't look in top shape, but rammed this 210 up pretty easy. It looked good, but was turned down 2-1 (I overheard the center ref also say he overturned his initial decision). IWF Rule 2.7.2 states that it is incorrect "Any deliberate oscillation of the barbell to gain advantage. The athlete and the barbell have to become motionless before starting the jerk". By this rule, the refs were correct in their call, he did not become motionless. I personally don't like the rule, I think if you have the timing and ability to use the momentum of the clean to assist the jerk, you should be able to, but thats neither here nor there :)

This setup was very cool, with the weight releasers - this was ~220kg on the way down, then about 150kg on the way up, plus the isokinetic tension. I would discuss more about how this actually works, but the technology and machines are under patent - so if I told you I'd have to kill you.

V with a 'tude-tastic 80kg to qualify for Nationals. 100% badass!

Sergo with a great lift for the gold in all three. However, it was later stripped for doping.

The 1980 Olympic Gold Medalist and World Record Holder Daniel Nunez with a big C&J.

A fantastic lift and new world record for Sergo lifting Australia. However, he was stripped of the record and gold medal after being popped for doping. Nonetheless, notice how low he gets in the bottom position - wow.

69kg class, 3rd attempt from Europeans - such a strong clean, but jerk looks shakey

First time I've done Overhead Squats in 9 months, finally my wrist cooperated. Trying to get back to the 150-160kg range.

The only decent lift I had all day. Proceeded to clean 142kg twice and miss the jerk :(

This guy's flexibility is out of this world, look at how low he gets in the bottom position.

Eric's Gold Medal squat in the 60kg category. He went onto a 247.5kg total to win the 2010 Special Olympics National Championship.

A new PR for Richard Chase, the 8-time defending state Special Olympics champion and defending national champion. Body weight of 147lbs.
