A Tribute to John Candy
I'm back, with yet another tribute! This time, it's to my favorite actor, the late great John Candy. He had the talent to put a smile on our faces, even though he is no longer with us. The song I used was "Everytime You Go", by Paul Young, the same song used in the end of "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles". RIP John, thanks for the laughs.

Re-Enactment #8: Planes, Trains, and Automobiles
The Eighth of my Re-enactment series. This is one of my favorite scenes from any movie. It's from the film Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. In it, Steve Martin is trying to get home for Thanksgiving. He meets John Candy through chance, and just can't see to get rid of him as he tries to make it home before the holidays. In this scene, they stay in a motel room together. After John Candy clears his sinuses for a few minutes, Steve Martin finally snaps and goes off on how annoying he is. Long live John Candy, comic genius. And Steve Martin too... I love him, but... Cheaper by the Dozen 2? Oh well. My moustache = some kleenex colored with a brown marker taped to my face

Mary Margaret O'Hara is the younger sister of Catherine O'Hara, who co-starred with John Candy on a Canadian comedy TV show from the late 70's to early 80's. As she sings, the camera pans the local Toronto church assembly and you can also see Happy the drunken bar patron host of 50s Western serial segment that was also from the same Canadian comedy series. Also in attendance is Pinball Clemons who was a famous football player on the Toronto Argos at the time Candy was part owner.

A Lesson in Humility: Humility 101 [John Candy in Splash, 1984]
This is a classic slapstick scene by the late-great John Candy. This scene was done before CGI was commonplace. John actually hit the ball, and it returned to hit him, smack-dab in the forehead. I always wondered how many takes it took before they got the shot, because, you'll notice, it's all done in one take, not some cheap two-shot (using two different camera angles). In 1985, I had the opportunity to ask John about it and his reply was that the director presumed it would take numerous shots before they could get it right. They booked a whole day to get the right shot for that scene. Amazingly, they got it perfect on the third take! (Dedicated to my nephew, Richard)
