Sunny Day (Aud in The Midnight Sun) - original by Jordan The Cat

A blatantly John Prine-derivative yet original song, very loosely based on a true story about going out on a date in Norway. (Lyrics by Jordan and Arthur.) Lyrics: You called me up the other day To have some fun The ball's in play A sunny day, and that's okay A smiling glance, a picnick park A happy time The moon is dark A sunny day, and that's okay Memories, they can't be boughten (John Prine) I could swear there's something I've forgotten I'm walking home, the day is done The wind is blowing All on its own A sunny night, and that's alright.

Billy Jack Fight Re-Cut and Expanded

The fight in the park from the classic movie "Billy Jack," re-cut and expanded. This version of the fight is about a minute longer than the original. The previously-unseen footage in this video is just a small part of what is available in the "cut-your-own fight" section on the bonus disc of the 35th Anniversary Billy Jack DVD. That footage has no audio whatsoever, so I am very grateful to the community at www.soundsnap.com for all of the sound effects I used in this video. Adding all the sound effects, one at a time, and trying to line them up with the action, was for me the most challenging and time-consuming aspect of making this video. The final sound effect I added was the ambient park sound audio over top of all of the clips, including background traffic and birds. That audio, also from soundsnap.com, was recorded by Justine Angus in a park in Sydney Australia- thereby allowing me to import birds from Down Under to the parks of the US Here's some of the text from the "cut-your-own fight" folder on the 35th Anniversary Billy Jack DVD "The footage in this folder is most of the remaining negatives from the original fight scene shoots in 1969 in Prescott, AZ and 1970 in Santa Fe, NM (you can tell the difference by the jackets, the breath, and the white, frostbitten feet). You will see parts missing. They are the clips that were used in the original film. By providing this footage, we are encouraging you to come up with your own version of the fight scene." Paradise - John Prine 1980 (stereo)

"Paradise" is one of the three songs John Prine first performed on stage- the others being "Sam Stone" and "Hello In There." He still plays all of these songs in his concerts today, almost forty years later. Muhlenburg County, in western Kentucky, was once one of North America's largest coal-producing regions. The Peabody Coal Company, now called Peabody Energy, is to this day one of the world's largest coal companies. The town of Paradise; in Muhlenburg County, was flooded by the waters of the Green River in 1969 when a dam was erected, in order to facilitate barge traffic to and from the Peabody coal fields. Blue Umbrella - John Prine / Steve Goodman cover

Thanks to alert Youtuber isu3444 for pointing out that this song was written by John Prine, and not Steve Goodman. "Blue Umbrella" appears on Prine's 1973 "Sweet Revenge" album, while Goodman featured it two years later on his "Jessie's Jig and Other Favorites" album. This is my rendition of the acoustic version of the song, from "John Prine Live." BTW, I didn't notice that the volume-lowering graphic had been imported from my video camera until I'd uploaded this, and deleted the original video from my camera. Oh, well- no doubt many listeners to my song will be lowering their volume once they hear me.

Revisiting "How I Fingerpick 'Hello In There'"

Hello Out There! Quite a few nice people have been asking for clarification about how I play this song- probably because my first attempt at a video demonstration wasn't very thorough or as helpful as I had hoped. With any luck, a better guitarist and teacher will come along at some point with a proper "Hello In There" lesson, but until then I hope that this video is of help to those trying to learn my favorite John Prine song. I've attempted to deconstruct each part of the way I play the signature introduction/instrumental part of the song. The verses use the same chord progression as this intro, but with a slightly simpler picking pattern. The chords: Intro/instrumental and verse: G Am D7 (play twice) then D6, which is xx0432, then CG and D. Chorus: FGFG D6 CGD G.

Storm Windows - John Prine cover

The title track of John Prine's 1980 album, which nobody else seems to have covered yet on YouTube- so you're stuck with my version for now. The album also featured such favorites as "One Red Rose," and "Sleepy Eyed Boy," the latter possibly being the only time Prine ever applied his fingerpicking style to 3/4 time- correct me if I'm wrong about that.

Hello In There - John Prine cover

"Hello In There" is my very favorite John Prine song. This was the very first song I learned to play all the way through, and I learned to play it by listening to the song over and over, bit by bit; a tedious process which involved lifting the needle and setting it back "just a bit" over and over and over more times than you can imagine. So although we've never met, John Prine taught me how to fingerpick. And although I've heard and played it hundreds of times since over the years, "Hello In There" is the one song that I will never get sick of. A song about growing old and growing lonely, written by a 24 year-old mailman. John Prine has always been able to make me laugh and make me cry. This song will always be able to make me cry.

Singing The Blues - Guy Mitchell(?) cover

Written by Melvin Endsley, versions of this song were released by Guy Mitchell, Tommy Steele and Marty Robbins at about the same time in 1956. Mitchell's version apparently prevailed, spending 9 weeks at #1 on the Billboard charts. Bill Hailey & His Comets covered the song a few years later, as have numerous other artists since. The version I've enjoyed the most is on Paul McCartney's "Unplugged (The Official Bootleg)" CD. Fellow-YouTuber Tsunoyukami joins me once again.

From Lovett's 1994 album "I Love Everybody." The album consists of stripped-down arrangements of slightly odd songs which apparently weren't worthy of inclusion on previous albums. It's a great listen, and I recommend it to all acoustic guitar playing folk music fans who appreciate something from just a little bit out in the left field. "Creeps Like Me" was originally going to be the title of the album.

The Wild Rover - The Beachside Boys

This song, almost 200 years old, was originally written as a temperance song. Listen to the lyrics! Since then it has become a favorite "drinking song," an irony which I love. We performed this song on New Year's Eve 2007 for a group of people who were clearly not just drinking tea. Wikipedia offers this history of the song: en.wikipedia.org By the way, the three of us (Tsunoyukami, Bernie and me) were given the "Beachside Boys" name that evening by our MC, Lee. We kinda liked it.

Easy Apple Pie Recipe

The Recipe: Ingredients- 6-8 apples (spy) 3/4 cups brown sugar 1/2 tsp cinnamon dash of ground nutmeg 3 tbsp flour 1/2 tsp salt 1 tsp lemon juice 1 tbsp unsalted butter 2 frozen pie crusts Combine apples, sugar, cinnamon, flour, salt and lemon juice. Preheat oven to 425F. Poke thawed bottom crust with fork. Fill crust with mixture. Dot with butter as shown in video. Moisten edges of crust with water. Seal thawed top crust to bottom crust. Wrap edges with tin foil to prevent burning. Slit top crust to let steam escape. Optional: Brush top crust with milk, sprinkle with white sugar. Bake for 30 minutes at 425F, then reduce heat to 350. Bake for 25-30 more minutes. My friend TK demonstrates his fine baking skills once again. The music in this video is from Bruce Cockburn's "Speechless" CD.
