The June 5, 1975 NASA JPL Goldstone Demonstration of high power long distance wireless power transmission successfully transmitted 34kw of electrical power a distance of 1.5km at an efficiency of greater than 82%. Once a year, JPL invites local schools to compete in its Invention Challenge. The 2009 challenge was to build the most efficient cardboard or paper bridge capable of carrying several pounds of bricks. Teams from Crescenta Valley High in La Crescenta, California, captured first, second and third place honors.

Their calendar does not end on Dec. 21, 2012. It's just the end of the cycle and the beginning of a new one. It's just like on Dec. 31st, our calendar comes to an end but a new calendar for the next year begins on Jan. 1st. Niburu is suppose to be a planet that's four times the size of the Earth. It's going to get very close to the Earth and cause all kinds of disasters. So this enormous planet is suppose to be coming toward Earth, but if it were, we would've seen it long ago and if it were invisible somehow, we would've seen the affects of this planet on neighboring planets. Thousands of astronomers who scan the night skies on a daily basis have not seen this. And then there's folks who think that NASA astronomers are actually hiding this information so as to prevent panic from the populous. Can you imagine thousands of astronomers who observe the skies on a nightly basis keeping the same secret from the public for several years? Some folks think there's going to be a solar storm associated with Dec. 21st of 2012. Now, solar storms do exist. The sun's activity goes through a cycle that reaches a maximum every eleven years. For the first time ever, NASA beamed a song -- The Beatles' "Across the Universe" -- directly into deep space at 7 pm EST on Feb. 4. The transmission over NASA's Deep Space Network commemorated the 40th anniversary of the day The Beatles recorded the song, as well as the 50th anniversary of NASA's founding and the group's beginnings. Two other anniversaries also are being honored: The launch 50 years ago this week of Explorer 1, the first US satellite, and the founding 45 years ago of the Deep Space Network. A thick chunk of Arctic sea ice the size of two states has disappeared. Is it global warming or normal causes? A new NASA-led study found a 23-percent loss in the extent of the Arctic's thick, year-round sea ice cover during the past two winters. Between winter 2005 and winter 2007, the perennial ice shrunk by an area the size of Texas and California combined. This drastic reduction of perennial winter sea ice is the primary cause of the fastest-ever sea ice retreat on record this summer. NASA JPL researchers present a 250-mm diameter omni-directional anchor that uses an array of claws with suspension flexures, called microspines, designed to grip rocks on the surfaces of asteroids and comets and to grip the cliff faces and lava tubes of Mars. Part of the paper, "Gravity-Independent Mobility and Drilling on Natural Rock Using Microspines," by A. Parness et al., presented at the 2012 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation.
