Tenjin Shin'yō-ryū (天神真楊流), literally meaning "Divine True Willow School", can be classified as a traditional school (koryū) of jujutsu. It was founded by Iso Mataemon Minamoto no Masatari in the 1830s. Once a very popular jujutsu system in Japan, among the famous students who studied the art were Kano Jigoro, whose modern art of judo was greatly inspired by the Tenjin Shin'yō-ryū, and Morihei Ueshiba, the founder of aikido.

In 1905, ju-jutsu pioneer Sadakazu Uyenishi and his students issued the "Textbook of Ju-jutsu". It was partly illustrated with "cinematographics" produced by the Gaumont Film Company, here re-animated for the first time in over 100 years.

The Swedish Ju-jutsu Association, SJJA, (in Swedish "Svenska Ju-jutsuförbundet, SJJF") was formed by some Ju-jutsu clubs in 1991. The first years there were no activities within the association. During the fall 1998 the SJJA was transformed into an organization for the clubs training the style Ju-jutsu Kai. Since then the SJJA is the organization taking care of all Ju-jutsu Kai-matters in Sweden. Ju-jutsu training is fun and variable. It covers for example: takedowns, throws, punches, kicks, blocks, joint-locks, ground fighting and more (children's training does not include punches and kicks). We use different colours on our belts in order to differ the skills and knowledge of Ju-jutsu students. We begin with a white belt, and then follow yellow, orange, green, blue, brown and a black belt. The black belt is devided into 10 degrees (Dan). The Ju-jutsu Kai training and grading manual (syllabus) is also availible in english. www.ju-jutsu.se

This is a quick video with concepts that we use in Koryu Bujutsu. We work on 3 main aspects: 1) How to deal with tand up fighting 2) How to deal when the fight is standing up and goes into the clinch and 3) how to deal with fighting on the ground. The video was shot raw which means unlike alot of what goes on there were no re-takes, no rehersals, no editting cuts. This adds a bit more realism which is lacking out there.

Demonstration of Kashima Shin Ryu on Riga Taikai 2009. Kashima-Shinryū is a nearly 500 years old Japanese koryu martial art. The art was somewhat popularized in the 20th century by Kunii Zen'ya (1894-1966), the 18th generation soke (headmaster). The Current 'Soke' is 21st Generation Kunii Masakatsu. The line is still headed by the Kunii family but is more or less honorific as the responsibility for the preservation and teaching of the ryu is instilled in a 'Shihanke' - currently represented by Seki Humitake. 'Shihanke' roughly translates as 'instructors house' and is something which is not uncommon in Koryu Bujutsu.
