Snowball is a Rockin' to the Back Street Boys Cockatoo!!

Snowball can be seen on Animal Planet's "2007: Year in Animals" so please check your local listings for days and times. Bird Lovers Only Rescue needs donations to build a habitat for the birds. Please go to www.birdloversonly.org for donation information and how you can help! Not my video but I felt that it had to be posted on youtube to draw attention to an important issue, Bird rescues and sancuaries. This is a video of a medium sulphur crested Eleanora cockatoo named Snowball living at the Bird Lovers Only Rescue in Schererville, Indiana. Snowball loves the Back Street boys and has taught himself to dance to their song "Everybody." Bird Lovers Only Rescue needs reliable volunteers to help on Tuesday and/or Friday evenings. They are a donation-based not for profit bird rescue. There is tons of useful information about parrots on their blog. To see their Website, Blog and birds ready for adoption go to: www.birdloversonly.org birdloversonly.blogspot.com www.birdloversonly.org I hope this draws attention to their cause. Fortunately there are some really great people running these rescues. As we all know, all to often parrots are abused. There is also another wonderful Youtuber OverTheRaynbow and www.secondchancebirds.com who also runs a sanctuary. To view her videos click here www.secondchancebirds.com http

Kakadu National Park and Arnhem Land

Less than three hours drive from Darwin, Kakadu National Park has a rare dual World Heritage listing for both its natural beauty and its ancient Aboriginal culture, dating back 50000 years. It is a place of rugged escarpments, lush wetlands, savannah woodland and cascading waterfalls covering over 19000 square kilometres making it the largest national park in Australia. Kakadu is shaped by water, being the catchment area for the South Alligator, East Alligator, Katherine, Roper and Daly rivers. From November to May, waterfalls are at their most spectacular and the lowlands are flooded, attracting millions of migratory birds. The diversity of nature contained within the Park is astounding and keen birdwatchers are spoilt for choice. The unique and diverse avian life in Kakadu includes jacanas, azure kingfishers, cuckoos, rufous owls, magpie geese, jabiru and more. Take a cruise on Yellow Water Billabong literally teeming with migratory birds. You may even spot a croc or two! Over one-third of Australian bird species, around one thousand different plant species and a quarter of all Australian freshwater fish species can also be found here. A number of Aboriginal language groups still reside within the park, which is home to one of the largest concentrations of Aboriginal rock art in the world. Ubirr and Nourlangie Rock are among the most vivid and extensive examples. A must is a climb to the top of Ubirr for unbeatable 360-degree views of the surrounding floodplains. Other ...

Landcruiser crossing Magela Creek in Kakadu National Park

Driving through Magela Creek in a Landcruiser at the end of the Wet Season in Kakadu National Park. During the Wet season, Magela Creek cuts the road between Jabiru and the East Alligator area of Kakadu. The creek usually starts running sometime in December and the last water on the road is usually sometime in April. During the Wet this part of the park can be difficult to access. At the start and end of the Wet the area can be accessed by 4wd, but during the main part of the Wet it is generally not possible to ford the Magela as it gets too deep (the water level fluctuates daily and on occasions it is possible to get through, but you also need to be aware of being caught on the other side). Sometimes tour operators run a boat shuttle through the Magela and leave a bus on the other side for the remaining 25km trip up to the East Alligator. Of course during a really good Wet even this is not possible as there are other creeks to cross on the way and the East Alligator river can flood much of the area further up. For the rest of the year the road is dry and most tourists speed across the creek unaware there is even a creek there as during the dry there is little if any sign of water. During the Wet, the once dry paperbark forests are transformed with an under carpet of beautiful lilies and the whole area comes alive. To visit the East Alligator in the wet season is a fantastic experience. The East Alligator area is a particularly beautiful part of Kakadu with rugged rocky ...

Kakadu and Pt. Stuart, Australian Travel Video Guide

Between Darwin and Kakadu National Park is the Point Stuart Wilderness Lodge. They put on a great Aboriginal Culture Show of a night, around the camp fire, and of a morning introduce guests to bush tucker and natural medicines on a walking tour of the surrounding bushland. They also do a boat tour of the Mary River where you are almost guaranteed the chance to see crocodiles. To film in Kakadu National Park, one must pay for a permit. The management lob all commercial filming in the same basket. I donâ??t think this is terribly fair, or supportive of independent Aussie filmmakers. For self funded filmmakers, hoping to make commercially viable projects, surely National Parks could defer payment, or reduce fees, to encourage independent productions that promote Australia! The slick million dollar taxpayer funded tourism ad campaigns are not the only way to promote our wonderful country. With the advent of online video, Australian citizens should be allowed to film in their National Parks and feature their work online, without fear of fines or imprisonment. As long as they are respectful to Aboriginal cultural sites.

Peter Sculthorpe - Kakadu

Peter Sculthrope - "Kakadu" (1988) for Orchestra. Have a quote: "The work takes its name from the Kakadu National Park in northern Australia. This enormous wilderness area stretches from coastal tidal plains to rugged mountain plateaux, and in it may be found the living culture of its Aboriginal inhabitants, dating back for fifty thousand years. Sadly, today there are only a few remaining speakers of kakadu or gagadju. The work, then, is concerned with my feelings about this place, its landscape, its change of seasons, its dry season and its wet, its cycle of life and death. In three parts, the outer sections are dance-like and energetic, sharing similar musical ideas. The central section is somewhat introspective, and is dominated by a cor anglais solo. ... Apart from this solo, the melodic material in Kakadu, as in much of my recent music, was suggested by the contours and rhythms of Aboriginal chant." - Peter Sculthorpe (the composer) The above was stolen from Wikipedia! This piece is a mixture of neo-romantic and soundscape, I love it! If you love it, consider buying the cd! It was performed by the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and conducted by James Judd: www.amazon.com itunes.apple.com Enjoy! If there's a problem with this being up here, let me know and I'll happily comply! (and to the Bronies: THIS is what I listened to when reading F:Eq!)
