Chaos in Kampala

www.ntv.co.ke Army troops have been deployed in the streets of Uganda after rioters and police forces clash in Kampala, Uganda following the treatment of opposition leader Kizza Besigye. A teenager in Bwaise has been shot dead by police at a petrol station. Every major suburb slipped to chaos, Ntinda, Najeera, Kireka and Wandegeya. Chaos, confusion and fracas is also being reported in markets and places that are frequented by Ugandans. The Renewed chaos, seem to have ben sparked off by the mishandling of Kizza Besigye on yesterday (Thursday, 28th April 2011) who is leading the walk to work protest. Besigye, who won just over 20 percent of the vote in February, swore earlier this month that he would walk from his home on the outskirts of Kampala to the city center each Monday and Thursday to raise attention to skyrocketing commodity prices that he said are spurred on by government corruption. For the first time, Uganda's opposition has moved beyond the politics of attacking president Yoweri Museveni and chose an issue that concerns most Ugandans. The high fuel prices have driven food prices up and many of Uganda's urban poor can hardly afford a meal. The regime has used the cover of security to order TV Stations not to broadcast live coverage of events and one tv station was reportedly switched off for 15 minutes.
