Over the past twenty years Kazakhstan has slowly risen to become a prosperous nation. President Nazarbayev has aimed to 'modernise' the oil rich country, even building a city from scratch. With cutting edge architecture and glittering shopping malls, his people argue, "he is promoting the Kazakh people to a bright future". Whether his presidency has been democratic or not, many Kazakhis feel he has helped the country progress. Yet a closer look shows a country still hosting profound problems. In january of 2002 The group became the Prize-winner of prize National musical channel "A-1" in nomination "Group of the year". The prize handed "A-Studio" group.

Here I am playing an instrument from Kazakhstan. It is a two stringed lute called a dombra. I first play a real Kazakh tune that I learned from a Kazakh person during my trip. I jam out in the middle on some melodies I made up. At the end I bring it back to Kazakhstan!

Ulytau (Kazakh: Ұлытау) is a popular instrument folk metal trio from Kazakhstan. Their music combines the sound of the violin and electric guitar with the dombra, a traditional two stringed instrument from their country. Ulytau was conceived as a project by producer Kydyrali Bolmanov in 2001 to merge Western and Eastern music with arrangements of classical music from such composers as Kurmangazy Sagyrbayuly, Antonio Vivaldi, Niccolò Paganini and Johann Sebastian Bach. The name of the group translates to "Big Mountain." They have since toured Germany, England, Scotland, Poland, USA, Turkey, China, Japan and Russia. The band was awarded the "Golden Disc" in 2001 for their song "Aday" that was based on a composition from Kurmangazy of the same name.[citation needed] The song was also featured on the Rough Guide compilation to the music of Central Asia en.wikipedia.org
