Dr. Michael R. Cousineau is an expert on health policy and health services and evaluation research; access to care for the low-income uninsured; governance and operation of safety-net providers, including public hospitals, community-based clinics and health centers; and health needs of vulnerable populations, including homeless people. His work includes studying the impact of initiatives designed to expand health insurance to adults and children, the dynamics of insurance coverage decisions by small businesses, alternative governance of safety-net hospitals, and the health and mental health needs of the homeless. Dr. Cousineau is an associate professor of research in the Department of Family Medicine and Preventive Medicine at the Keck School of Medicine of USC. He directs the USC Center for Community Health Studies and teaches in both the Master of Public Health and the Professionalism and the Practice of Medicine programs. Dr. Heinz-Josef Lenz is an expert on cancer, especially colorectal, esophageal, gastric, pancreatic and liver cancer. A professor in the departments of medicine and preventive medicine in the oncology division of the Keck School of Medicine of USC, he is also associate director of clinical research at the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, chair of the GI Oncology Program, co-director of the Colorectal Center and scientific director of the Cancer Genetics Unit. Dr. Lenz co-chairs the Southwest Oncology Group's Gastrointestinal (SWOG GI) committee, is chair of translational medicine for the SWOG GI committee, and serves as a member of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) GI Steering Committee and of the NCI translational medicine committee. He serves on several editorial boards as well as on national and international advisory boards. He has published more than 120 peer-reviewed papers and holds over 20 patents on molecular markers.
