1 of 4, Kel-Tec KSG Shotgun First Shots: "Eat Lead" by Nutnfancy

The KelTec KSG shotgun rocks the desert in the new Nutnfancy "Eat Lead" Drill. Combining combat-style of shotgunning with some challenging pistol targets, Eat Lead is a fast-paced course that starts in a trench and winds through sage brush and juniper. Many opportunities emerge for both system and shooter failure, always providing excellent and real systems data for the viewer. This will be the world video premier of the KSG being ran like this. With its 7+7+1 mag tube systems, short bullpup configuration, double pistol grips, and lightweight, the KSG is a cutting edge design. We come up with a few solid ideas however to make it better. With crew PFIDude, PFIDad, and Chad from Kel-Tec, this Nutnfancy Crew steps up and locks in to find out how it stacks against the proven speed and reliability of a Winchester 1300 in the course. Add in the handgunning, the joking, the workout, the gear surprises (oh yeah, there's lots), and you have yourself another fun and exhausting Nutnfancy RunNGun course...Eat Lead./////////////////////// Perfect EAT LEAD run score is 36 (25 pt/hits, 5 pt speed run bonus, 3 pt no miss shotgun bonus, 3 pt handgun no miss bonus). Any HOSTAGE hits subtract 5 pts! ////////Note: Downloading the KSG in the initial runs is imperative for a good test. Running full tubes would not have explored the complicated reload/switchover process unless the course was lengthened to an expensive, tiring, and time consuming 30 rds! Kel-Tec PF-9: "Daily Carry Handgun" Pt 1 by Nutnfancy

PART 1 of 2 The Kel-Tec PF-9 is a great alternative to the Kahr PM series of polymer framed pistols. It costs less than half the price and yet offers excellent accuracy, reliability, firepower, lightweight, and outstanding carry comfort. And it some ways, as discussed in the video, it even beats the Kahr PM series (PF-9: thinner, longer sight radius, 1 extra round, longer grip but still ultra concealable). Against the Kahr CW series, it compares in value but weighs a substantial 3 ounces less. As shown in my companion shooting video, the PF-9 is a good shooter too once you learn the trigger and get accustomed to the somewhat snappy recoil. It can readily serve as a concealed carry option, officers backup gun, or as a possible all-around home defense pistol as well (a lighter weight, more concealable gun like the PF-9 could prove to be more versatile and more used by the homeowner in the long run). Initial production versions of the Kel-Tec PF-9 were fraught with reliability and quality problems and some may mistakenly think these issues persist. They dont. Those have all been fixed and current iterations are providing stellar service with their users (reference ktog.org for specific serial number issues if purchasing a used PF-9). For most users, the PF-9 will last your lifetime as well. Overall, it is a high value gun that is backed up with typically great Kel-Tec customer service. /////////////Nutnfancy Initial Likeability Scale: 9 of 10

Kel-Tec SU-16C: "Featherweight Firepower" By Nutnfancy, Pt 1

PART 1 OF 3: The Kel-Tec SU-16C is a super lightweight, portable rifle possessing excellent firepower, good accuracy, and reliability. At a mere 4.7 lbs the SU-16C enjoys an amazingly versatile POU: backpacking gun, patrol officer carbine, civilian sheepdog weapon, or aircrew armament. As shown with Burris "Speed Dot" sight , 30 rd USGI mag (empty), M6 laser/light, and single point sling the SU-16C weighs still a svelte 5.8 lbs. The SU-16C is a high value gun and competes against that also excellent Ruger Mini-14 in the high value .223 carbine category (subject to change with pricing). It takes the ubiquitous AR-15 magazines which gives it plentiful and useful firepower. Integrating a built in Picatinny rail, the SU-16C can easily take optics to increase night sighting and overall hit potential. I recommend sticking to very lightweight sighting options on the gun to retain its portability and speed in handling. The iron sights however are good using a ghost-ring aperture system. They are capable of good accuracy at 50 yards as shown with my target proof. The SU-16C should be considered to have a break-in period and one model I shot experienced many stoppages until this phase was complete. Thereafter (and after cleaning and lubing), that example became 100% reliable with a variety of ammunition. Ensure the bolt, lock lugs, and bolt carrier wear a good lubricant like BreakFree CLP or Slip2000 to help ensure reliable functioning. Some users polish the bottom of the bolt ...

Kel-Tec P-3AT .380 pistol: "Airweight Defender" by Nutnfancy

Kel-Tec is rightly known for bringing high value, reliable auto pistols and the SU-16 series to the shooting public. They all have garnered a solid reputation for reliability and overall good accuracy. This is the table top review of the excellent P-3AT .380 pistol, previously shot at the Nutnfancy Tactical Clinic in the desert (see vid). This is an excellent backup handgun for police officers or even a primary gun for CCW holders and armed, responsible civilians. It did hiccupp once in the break in period, as predicted by the owners manual, but was completely reliable thereafter. Its high points are its decent DAO trigger, good accuracy, and most beneficial, its extreme lightweight and slim profile which make it very comfortable in carry. Its sights do indeed suck (low contrast and imprecise) and could use a lot of improvement but of course it will be a rarity for the gun to engage beyond 10 yds. Judging from my experience in the clinic and in years past, the P-3AT is a high value .380 option that could save your life. Nutnfancy highly recommends this little affordable auto. 1 of 4, Kel-Tec RFB vs .308 Battle Rifles: "Have No Fear" by Nutnfancy

Time to saddle up with some more hardcore shooting inThe Nutnfancy Project (TNP). It's all about hanging out with friends, getting some practice, and testing some cool guns which may change the shooting world. Enter Kel-Tec RFB battle rifle and the featherweight 30 rd PMR-30 .22 mag pistol. Each sets new standards for design. But can they hold up to the real world testing of TNP? To find out say hello the the TNP crew of Nutnfancy, PFIDude, and PFIDAD (!) who put down a bunch of runs in practical shooting in the Sledgehammer Drill to find out. The wind was cranking and the sky was cloudy. We are joined by Chad from Kel-Tec who brought these cool (and hard to find!) toys for us to abuse. In designing this episode of The Sledgehammer Drill, I wanted some quality competition for the KT products. Mission accomplished as I pit the KelTec RFB up against some other winning .308 battle rifles: the FN 17S (SCAR Heavy semi-auto) and the outstanding Springfield M1A SOCOM II. Pistols play in the wind too and you may find the face-off between PMR-30 .22 WMG versus the FN Five-Seven 5.7x28mm quite interesting. Expect some laughs, some mistakes, and some surprises...standard fare in TNP. As usual we don't take ourselves too seriously but we do the gear and getting rounds on target under some stressful, timed shooting drills...all of which has been a staple of TNP since 2008. Chad fits into the crew with perfection as we slam out some great sarcasm and insults whenever we can fit it in ...

"The Awesome Little Kel-Tec Sub-2000" by Nutnfancy

The little Kel-Tec Sub-2000 may surprise you. With a Zytel frame and its lightweight, t would be easy to discount this compact, 4 lb pistol chambered carbine. Don't. After extensively testing the "Sub2K" over a period of months, it made me a believer. Apparently everyone elese as well: every TNP crew member and guest that ran this gun loved it. Chugging through well over a thousand rounds in tactical drills and a lot of accuracy tesing, the Sub-2000 has proven itself to be one of the best pistol caliber carbines in the world. If you factor in its incredible small and folding form factor and extreme value (a $300 purchase price) it's probably the best. Reliability was mostly excellent. As indicatated in the manual, the gun does not like aluminum cased ammo. That's a shame because it saves money and weight in the POUs I indicate in my video "Pistol Caliber Carbines Don't Suck (Afterall)" by Nutnfancy (www.youtube.com However with brass cased ammo, including various JHP loads, the Sub-2000 was nearly perfectly reliable (one jam, shown). Accuracy of the Sub-2000 is outstanding. When outfitted with the Kel-Tec aluminum QUAD RAIL, attaching a red dot sight is a snap and it maintains zero. It helped the gun to achieve the excellent accuracy shown. However with this rail, the folding feature is affected as discussed. I still recommend however as sling and light attachment to the gun are simplified. It adds little to the weight and size as well. The aperture sights are adequate as ...

2 of 4, Kel-Tec RFB vs .308 Battle Rifles: "Have No Fear" by Nutnfancy

Can the Kel-Tec RFB catch up? It runs well in this Part 2 of "No Fear" as it continues with little lubrication with the various shooters in the TNP Sledgehammer Drill. Best score so far with the RFB is 32 points with Chad from Kel-Tec. But the FN 17S having thrown down 54 pts in the Nutnfancy Run #1 will be a hard catch (in fact the 9 hits at 200 yds is a course record). We are in for a few surprises though as an optics mount comes loose (good job Chad!), a pistol goes flying, the PMR-30s continue to jam, and even the FN 17S has a failure to feed. Did I say surprises? Actually it's the norm as the Sledge course as it continues functions as designed, revealing real data that will be useful and entertaining to the viewer. Lunch time ensues with the fellas and we inhale the cajun grilled chicken on french rolls in the high wind. Speaking of wind, I generate a bit of my own as usual for a little more entertainment. As testament to his coolness, we treat Chad as one of our own as we continue working the guns hard and making fun of each other. Nutnfancy at SHOT Show: KEL-TEC

KelTec does not ride on past accomplishments. They are always looking to what the market wants and coming up with innovative designs to fufill those needs. Case in point: the new .22 WMR semi-auto "PMR-30" pistol by KelTec is mind blowing. With an empty weight of just 13.6 oz, fiber optic sights, mini-red dot base provision, and a whopping 30 round magazine capacity (!) I predict it will be a runaway best seller at predicted street price of about $375 (2nd qtr 2010 avail, good luck!). In many ways this PMR-30 is an affordable alternative to the FN FiveSeven pistol and its eclectic and expensive 5.7x28mm ammo. It's 1230 fps muzzle velocity comes close to duplicating that load for a lot less money and widespread availability. Then there's the "RFB" is a semi-auto .308 Winchester (7.62x51mm) rifle accepting metric FN FAL magazines. It's a short bullpup design as shown to us by KelTec technician Matt Groom. It has several unique feature including out-the-front ejection of spent casings (which I don't super dig), reversible charging handle (big plus), chrome lined bore and chamber, short-stroke piston system that's adjustable, picatinny rail, and an overall 27" length. With its 18' it weighs 8.6 lbs which is on par with other 2010 .308 carbines but its bullpup configuration owns them in terms of compactness. KelTec says the RFB possesses a good trigger as well (unconfirmed). Also reviewed in this KelTec booth review by Nutnfancy is the KelTec folding D2 steel bayonet (maybe a ...

Nutnfancy SHOT Show 2011: Kel-Tec Moves To World Domination

You might find some good laughs and perhaps some fun in this Nutnfancy Kel-Tec 20111 product update. But as you've come to expect, I stay on target and hit the details like no other. The good, the bad, and the outstanding high points of Kel-Tec are discussed here. Chad from Kel-Tec is especially cool and turns out to be another Gold Star host for TNP. He rolls in most excellent fashion with the Nutnfancy style as we delve into yet more Kel-Tec impressive innovation. Namely their 26″ 12 gauge bullpup shotgun that will carry 14+1 rounds. Weighing in at a respectable 6.9 lbs, the Kel-Tec KSG-12 seems compact, fast, and sets new standards of PUMP shotgun firepower. The innovative KSG features include on-the-fly user-selectable magazines (each holding 7 2 ¾" rds), magazine cutoff ability for loading single rounds, plenty of railing for accessories and a VG, different colors, sling attachment points, and has screw-in cokes. If it's everything it seems to be the KSG will be another slam dunk seller for KT and the crew (and of course probably impossible to find for the next year). Also we check out the also impressive RMR-30 .22 WMG semi-auto carbine. In conversations with Kel-Tec, this is a gun I wanted them to make. It fills a distinct niche in as a lightweight, high-value survival/bug-out rifle with substantial firepower. And it uses the more-affordable and yet potent-enough .22 WMG (not the very expensive and flatlined 5.7x28mm). It seems to still be in development and expect ...

3 of 4, Kel-Tec RFB vs .308 Battle Rifles: "Have No Fear" by Nutnfancy

Perhaps jinxed by the crew bragging how reliable it was, the RFB brings a surprise here. I do not prefer its choice of FAL mags and I discuss why. But despite differences in zeros on the gun, the RFB manages to turn in 41 point run tie with both PFIDude and Nutnfancy. However it will never catch up with the FN 17S and its 54 pts in the Nutnfancy Run #1. Granted many variables are at play and that makes it more entertaining and interesting. After a full strip-down and lubrication, we remain hopeful on the Kel-Tec PMR-30 runs as well. We love its lightweight, ergos, sights, mag capacity, and price. We however are not loving its reliability. The more powerful 5.7x28mm FN Five-Seven does dominate here but as we mention but it is an expensive ride and practicing with it could break the bank. PFIDAD hangs tough in the many runs on "Sledge Road" as does Chad and fun continues as do a "little bit of this and a little bit of that along the way."///////////Music: Licensed to TNP from Jason Shaw///////////////// We attribute the RFB's failures to feed to the magazine from we could gather. Shooting the Kel-Tec P-3AT .380: Reliable Backup

A Nutnfancy Tactical Clinic shoot of the excellent Kel-Tec P3AT in .380 caliber. Kel-Tec is rightly known for bringing high value, reliable auto pistols and the SU-16 series to the shooting public. They all have garnered a solid reputation for reliability and overall good accuracy. Here Nutnfancy pops some rounds through a brand new, unfired P3AT. It hicups once in the break in period, as predicted by the owners manual, but was completely reliable thereafter. Its high points are its extreme lighweight, slim profile, and thus comfort in carry. Kel-Tec SU-22: "4 Pounds of Tactical" by Nutnfancy

Many things make the Kel-Tec SU-22 cool. First and foremost the weight: this little Tactical .22 only weighs 4 lbs! You will be amazed at the Philosophies of Use that this lightweight will open for you: recreational, tactical training, backpacking, or even survival rifle uses are all appropriate. Moreover the light weight makes shooting and carrying the SU-22 for the female or young shooter more enjoyable. It is a "Tactical .22" as I have been calling them for some time. It mimicks the centerfire Kel-Tec SU-16 series of rifles (reviewed, rec'd by me at www.youtube.com ) and many of its components are directly interchangeable. Of course you won't get the recoil, range, ToF, and noise of a the .223 SUs, but the ergonomics and battery of arms are similar. Another big SU-22 attraction is price: about $200 lower than many other tactical .22s. Remember in this category, threaded muzzles, Picatinny rails, polymer furniture, larger capacity magazines, sling attachments, etc are found and they often add cost. But the SU-22 provides most of those features for less. Reliability is good when the gun is kept clean. In my extended firing (without cleaning) that the SU-22 would experience failures to go into battery when dirty (no matter the ammo). When kept clean with appropriate lubrication, the little SU-22 cranked along with few jams, even with affordable bulk Federal .22 ammo (Remington Golden .22 is garbage and choked repeatedly in the tests...not recommended). 4 of 4, Kel-Tec RFB Debrief: "Have No Fear" by Nutnfancy

How much does the Kel-Tec RFB rock? Mostly positive reviews come out in Part 4, Final of "No Fear" but it never catches the FN 17S in points and we all weigh in with post-shoot observations. We chase darkness in the final runs of the Sledge and some of the best laughs emerge in this final part. How does the PMR-30 end up? After lubrication we hope for 100%. Big laughs, big fun, great testing, lots of work, and I end it by talking about PFI's Barbie collection. Like Chad from Kel-Tec throws down, we're glad "it kinda' worked out!" /////////////Music: Licensed from Jason Shaw

Trial by Fire: Kel-Tec SU-16C in "The Sledgehammer"

Below is my original sidebar writeup (see review) on the the outstanding Kel-Tec SU-16C. This proof-of-concept video again proves all my previous observations on the gun as it was subjected to some real-world tactical testing in "The Sledgehammer!". Along with the Glock 34, the little rifle equipped with Weaver "V9" #849402 scope, achieves an impressive 53 pts under tough conditions in my runs (with much higher possible). //////////////"The Kel-Tec SU-16C is a super lightweight, portable rifle possessing excellent firepower, good accuracy, and reliability. At a mere 4.7 lbs the SU-16C enjoys an amazingly versatile POU: backpacking gun, patrol officer carbine, civilian sheepdog weapon, or aircrew armament. As shown with Burris Speed Dot sight , 30 rd USGI mag (empty), M6 laser/light, and single point sling the SU-16C weighs still a svelte 5.8 lbs. They are capable of good accuracy at 50 yards as shown with my target proof ...

2 of 4, Kel-Tec KSG Shotgun Testing: "Eat Lead" by Nutnfancy

Bragging rights from my "Eat Lead" close quarters drill will be hard won. In the hunt is the excellent Winchester 1300 versus newcomer: the innovative KelTec KSG shotgun (and later a Saiga 12). More runs ensue from the trench with the Nutnfancy crew of Chad from KelTec, the "PFIs" (Dude and Dad), and myself. More surprises and laughs are in store but we stay focused on improving our techniques and times with all systems. We note several helpful observations in running the KSG system that might help you also to master such a new system; the magazine tube selector will almost always take the shooter by surprise unless you "game" it. And to make it fun and more interesting, handguns are still an important part of the runs and product testing (I believe that gunners should be well-rounded in all disciplines). I remain impressed with my .45 ACP Smith and Wesson 1911 #108303 handgun choice as it continues to dominate the steel at the pistol stage. Hitting the 40 yard plate is tough. But PFIDude steps up however with a Springfield XDM45 and delivers equally impressive hits and speed as well in this part. Even Chad's runs come together here as his speed and accuracy improves with the KSG and the FNP9 handgun. And while PFIDude and Dad take an extended lunch break back at the truck (what?!), Chad and I work straight on through and slam down out more runs. As usual time and energy are in limited quantities. Somewhere along the way I test the prototype KelTec single point sling tie ...

3 of 4, Kel-Tec KSG Throws 00 Buck: "Eat Lead" by Nutnfancy

This Nutnfancy crew speeds up the times with the KSG shotgun in this challenging "Eat Lead" Drill in the sagebrush and juniper. It is fast to point, accurate, and mostly reliable. I say mostly because Chad from Kel-Tec experiences a surprise near the end that you will have to check out. As with other bottom ejecting shotgun designs (Ithaca 37), jams can be ugly. The Winchester 1300 runs 100% throughout. The scores turn in a surprising three way tie in this Eat Lead Part 3. Chad on the next run shoots well with the XDM9 now, turns in a very respectable 27 pt run. With some hostage hits here and there by the fellas (which deducts 5 pts each), this results in three 27 pt runs (Nutnfancy, Chad, and PFIDude). PFIDude's 126.24 sec Win 1300/XDM45 run barely edges out my KSG/S&W 1911 126.9 sec run and takes the 5 pt speed bonus. Pistol shooting has dropped of a bit and no one turns in a perfect pistol stage in this part which leaves a 5 pt bonus unused (see scoring below). My first run with 00 Buckshot in the KSG turns in an underwhelming 20 pts. Shooting buckshot takes commitment and I had forgotten that, thus missing some targets and running it in a slow-for-me 157 secs (and my pistol hits dropped off). Shooting full power buck is very tough and you need to try it to appreciate the difficulty and recoil. Feeding rounds into both shotguns, as to be expected, is slow. With the KSG I indentify the need to bevel the feed area better. The tube switchover continues to take all by ...

Kel-Tec PLR 16

A short and sweet blasting episode with a Kel-Tec PLR 16 in 5.56X45. To be honest, I cannot recommend or not recommend this firearm. A friend of John's happened to bring it by, so I thought the fans of this type thing might enjoy a short demo with it. Once we got it lubed properly, it seemed to work okay.

Kel-Tec RFB on American Guardian - Gun Locker

Check out our selection of Kel-Tec RFB(s): bit.ly RFB stands for Rifle, Forward-ejecting Bullpup. Why forward-ejecting? Because it allows the RFB to be the first truly ambidextrous 7.62 NATO Bullpup ever developed. The patented, dual-extractor system maintains control of the case from the moment it leaves the magazine and upon firing, pulls the fired case from the chamber and lifts them to push them into an ejection chute above the barrel, where they exit. The Bullpup configuration and tilting-block mechanism allow the 18" model to be only 26.1" long, or as much as 14" shorter in overall length than its competitors with equal barrel lengths. Furthermore, the stock and mechanism cross-section is similar to a conventional rifle, in stark contrast to existing Bullpup rifles. The RFB is also the safest Bullpup ever developed because the breech is separated from the shooters face by two layers of 1.6 mm steel. In the highly unlikely event of a case rupture, gas expansion is directed downwards through the magazine well to protect the shooters head and face. Kel-Tec PF-9: Shooting Impressions

INITIAL shooting impressions of the compact and light Kel-Tec PF-9 pistol. The gun proved to be accurate and mostly reliable in a 120 rd break-in and preliminary shooting session at an indoor range (would have shot more but ammo is $$$). There were two stoppages in feeding during the break-in period which can be expected for the little Kel Tec pistols. The PF-9 proved to be very accurate for its type but it requires skill and practice to shoot well due to its lightweight, short sighting radius, and long (but light and smooth) trigger pull. For best accuracy, the long double action only (DAO) trigger can be manipulated with a staging technique as explained in the video. Recoil is brisk in the PF-9. The word snappy comes to mind. That is not surprising given its feathery 12.5 oz unloaded weight and its somewhat higher bore axis. An experienced pistol shooter will have no problem controlling the recoil but newer shooters may find it unpleasant. Ergonomics are good but be careful not accidentally actuate the magazine release which could get you killed in a defensive pistol encounter! Overall the Kel-Tec PF-9 seems to present officers and civilian sheepdogs with a viable, full caliber, super light and comfortable-to-carry CCW pistol. Look to my upcoming table top review for more specifics and POU. ////////////////////Nutnfancy Likeability Scale: 9 out of 10 (price considered)

SHOOTOFF: Ruger LC9 vs KelTec PF9 by Nutnfancy

New kid on the block is the Ruger LC9. It copies the KelTec formula established with the proven PF-9. It is a lighter weight single-stack 9mm handgun designed for concealed carry and officer backup. But does it do that job better than the 12.7 ounce PF-9? Is it more accurate, easier to shoot (at about 3 ounces heavier), and more reliable? Only rounds downrange can tell. While Chad from KelTec is in attendance, Matthew and Derick are not exactly KelTec fans and remain rather unimpressed with some of their designs. No favorites are played and they develop their own conclusions, as do I, from the shooting here. In terms of cost, size, weight, and value, these two 9mm handguns lead the concealed carry pack I think. Is the LC9 better? Press play to find out./////////////////////////Music licensed to TNP from awesome TNPrs www.youtube.com/user/bryanisms and Jason Shaw/////////////Note: Both guns were shot as competently as possible and all observations are real, as they happened from various, experienced shooters. I;ve sold 1000s of Ruger guns from my raving reviews on them. I take exception to any suggestions I give anything less here than what I always do: an honest take with fresh data no one else has the courage to provide. If the LC9 was awesome do you think I would have held back any enthusiasm for it? If so then you just don't get what TNP is and has been about, see ya. //////////////////// Answers from me to some critics in this vid: 1) "Let me keep it real then too ...
