Ustad Fateh Ali Khan (born: 1935) is amongst the foremost Khayal vocalists alive today in Pakistan, and the last significant exponent of the Patiala Gharana (stylistic lineage). He is the younger of the singing duo "Amanat Ali-Fateh Ali", who enjoyed immense prestige and success in Pakistan as well as India, until the demise of Amanat Ali Khan (1932-1974). Amanat Ali-Fateh Ali became celebrities while still in their childhood in undivided India, and achieved their highest official recognition in 1969, when the President of Pakistan conferred on them the Pride of Performance Medal. The Bade (elder) prefix got attached to Fateh Alis name after younger Pakistani musicians with similar names started making waves with an entirely different genre of music.

Jagjit Singh is one of the most famous Ghazal singers of the modern times. Born in Ganganagar located in Rajasthan on 8th February, 1941, the name Jagjit means the one who triumphs over the world. Jagjit Singh studied at Khalsa High School located in Ganganagar. After completing his matriculation, he took up Science. He graduated in Arts from DAV College located in Jalandhar and has a post graduate degree in history from Kurukshetra University, Haryana. His father wanted him to join the Indian Administrative Services. But when he saw his son achieving accolades in the world of music, he was more than happy. Jagjit learnt classical music under Pundit Chaganlal Sharma and achieved expertise in classical forms like Khayal, Thumri and Dhrupad. He moved to Bombay in the year 1965 searching for better luck in the field of music. Any budding artist faces initial struggles and tribulations before finally making an indelible mark in the industry. He got assignments that were limited to performing at wedding functions and singing jingles for advertisements. Around 1970's, the world of ghazals was dominated by renowned names like Noor Jehan, Malika Pukhraj, Begum Akhtar, Talat Mahmood and Mehdi Hassan. Jagjit Singh made the efforts to come with his first album titled "The Unforgettables", which was a collection of semi-classical Indian music. Besides Hemanta Mukherjee's compositions, her largest body of work is with Robin Chattopadhyay and Nachiketa Ghosh. She has also sung notable songs under Salil Chowdhury and Sudhin Dasgupta's baton. During the Bangladesh Liberation War she joined the mass movement among Indian Bengali artistes to raise money for the millions of refugees who had poured into Kolkata and West Bengal to escape the fighting, and to raise global awareness for the cause of Bangladesh. I couldn't find a single upload of this song in its album version on Youtube. Almost all were live recordings. This ghazal has been sung by the likes of Mehdi Hassan, Ghulam Ali, Jagjit Singh, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. But to me, this is the best version. Its dark, brooding and I love it that way! Shri Suvir Misra has made efforts to incorporate the Saraswati Veena within the North Indian Classical Music Concert repertoire.Inspired by the legendary Vainika Padma Bhushan Shri S. Balchandar from the Karnatic tradition who developed his`own Sarasvati Vina playing technique, Shri Suvir has also developed a unique fingering method by incorporating and adapting the Rudra Veena fingering techniques which enables playing of fast taans in Khayal Style using Gamakas and Meends. This is a Baithak recording done a couple of years back. Tabla support is provided by Shri Yatinder of Ajrada Gharana.
