Stop puppies biting- clicker dog training

This video is on how to stop your puppy biting you. The technique of clicking the absence of biting was shown to me by my mentor Kyle Rayon, who is one of the most amazing and innovative trainers, though she is very modest! Dogs use their mouths to interact with their environment, so it is normal for a puppy to want to bite your hands or clothes. However in our society it is highly inappropriate. To train a puppy to stop using their mouth when interacting with humans is simple. All you have to do is set up training scenarios where your puppy would normally start biting and train an alternate response- calmly sitting, lying down, standing, or walking with a closed mouth. First you would start with the least arousing game- so simply just a reaching hand. As you reach, click or say "yes" and then feed a treat. As the puppy is successful you can progress to more and more arousing stimulus. You should not allow your dog to be man handled or petted roughly. Petting should not only be rewarding for the human but for the dog as well. However at some point in your dogs life, someone might get to your dog before you can stop them and be overly rough. You can prepare your dog for these situations by playing training games. But when these situations do occur in real life, respect your dog, and get them out of the stressful situation. Do practice handling exercises for grooming as well as vet visits regularly... Tips- These exercises should only be done by ADULTS. As children can ...

How to communicate with a dog in their own language- dog training dog communication

In no way do I condone pestering a dog in order to make them offer calming signals for you to see. I kissed Kiko on the head in this video to show you something that dogs HATE that is often done to them, not that I want to condone it! ☺ Dogs bite. You should never put your face in a dogs face. Calming signals can be offered when you are standing or sitting, I was very close to Splash at one point in this video because it was hard to fit us in the video screen, and Splash is very comfortable with me being that close to her face. Never lean into a dogs face in order to communicate with them! Its Threatening! This video is about the secret language of dogs. Some of you might already know about Calming Signals, but the main population that find out about dog training through Television programs might not. In this video I will show you how you can use your dogs own language to communicate with them. I will also show you how to interpret your dogs language. Turid Rugaas is an internationally renowned dog trainer who has studied and researched calming signals for over a decade! You can visit her site on calming signals to learn more AND PICK UP ONE OF HER BOOKS AND DVDS on the subject. www.canis.no I also have to say that Turid Rugaas has the best leash walking book out there. My dog pulls-What do I do? I am eternally grateful to Turid for giving me the ability to be able to talk with my dogs in their own language. How to teach 'leave it'- without intimidation

This video explains how to teach 'leave it' using the clicker training method. Not only is this method the most effective, but it also builds a dogs desire to find and interact with their owner OVER distractions. Using punishment while training leave it, diminishes yourself as something reinforcing to interact with. PS Please feel free to link to my videos BUT please do not use my videos without asking to promote YOUR dog training videos and products! (I cant believe this has happened! The BEST and FASTEST way to teach STAY

This way of training the stay incorporates many wonderful concepts into the training process: 1-By click as distractions happen you are using classical conditioning to change your dog's emotional response to being calm and relaxed around those distractions. Lowering a dogs stress levels when asked to stay, which in turn will make the behavior more reliable. The distractions become conditioned secondary reinforcers. 2- By teaching the release cue first, you are using 'back chaining' by working on the end of the behavior of the stay first. Back chaining creates strong behaviors. 3- You are using the Premack Principle: the higher probability behavior predicts a lower probability behavior. Staying predicts getting up and getting to do what the dog wanted to do. Meaning the behavior will be stronger. 4- By clicking the release as a behavior it becomes a secondary reinforcer. So every time you release your dog from a stay, you are actually rewarding him for staying. www.dogmantics.com

Re: Every Dog Must Know This: How To Train Your Dog To Stay

This video was made one and a half years ago, and I believe that my editing skills have increased greatly since then. So this is video is for the people who have been pleading me to re-release it for over a year. Sorry for the delay. However I plan to make a new slick version of how to teach a bombproof stay using clicker training shortly, as I am a perfectionist and this video could be confusing to a new puppy owner. The video will have short easy to understand steps, rather that this video which is more like a rant on using positive punishment. I must say that my beginning videos on youtube did have a hint of irritation and annoyance in them, as it seemed at the time- a couple years back, there were not really any videos on how to teach things with TRUE clicker training, just a mix and match medley of using a clicker and then punishing the dog... I have realized over the years that being annoyed gets you no where, with dog or people, and so, if youll notice, my recent tutorials are less abrasive. The basics of this technique- Instead of saying eh eh! as you add the distraction and the dog gets up, you are going to CLICK! the dog at the very same moment the distraction happens, telling them YES! For staying there, even in the presence of THAT! then once you are confident your dog will continue staying. Start to delay your click for longer and longer AFTER the distraction has already appeared. NEVER let the dog get the distraction, if they get up, BUT you can let the dog ...

Invisible barriers- dog training

Tutorial coming soon... Using clicker training, and without using positive punishment, you can teach dogs reliable complex behaviors like teaching a default "don't take a step off the grassy area unless released". Splash is demoing how she generalizes don't step off the grass in two locations where I have never trained her to do it. I only trained her in front of my house, and another location, but as you can see she generalized it to the canyon area near the park because it doesnt have 'grass' (or at least that is what I think). The day that I film this I actually WANTED her to go and get the frisbee for me when I did a crappy throw, but she would not leave the grass, and I had to go and walk my lazy self down there in the bushes to get the frisbee. I was very impressed with her generalization skills so I picked up the camera and filmed a "fake" bad throw. However, with most dogs you would have to go to a few locations to train, before they would generalize it to all locations.

Amazing Funny Dog Tricks, Dog Training

This video shows some of the tricks I have been working on recently with Kiko and Splash. Some of the more interesting ones are, teaching Splash to look left and look right, teaching her how to skip, and how to shuffle backwards in a bow. Kiko started offering a tap dancing behavior which I captured, as well as scratching with her back feet. I also taught Kiko to go between Splashes legs as I saw a Boston Terrier do in the movie Hotel for Dogs, and thought it would be very cute to teach. Splash however, looks stressed as you can see, when kiko works too closely around her, because Kiko usually will boss Splash around if she is too close to her. All these tricks were taught using clicker training and no forms of positive punishment (meaning me saying No! or eh eh! Wrong! Or any physical manipulation)

Emily Larlham (kikopup) in Sweden!

Emily was here and held a fantastic two day seminar in Stockholm. I was so glad to finally meet her, since I'm a big fan. =) And I think Loke is in love with her by now and would have followed her back to the States if he had the chance. ;) It's sad that the seminar only lasted two days, I would have loved to talk to her more. =( And I'm so shy too, especially when I have to speak another language than my own, don't want to sound stupid. I hope you will want to visit Sweden again, Emily! This is only a small portion of what we did those days. =) cafenaive.blogspot.com

How to stop leash biting- clicker dog training

This is a video tutorial on how to teach your puppy not to bite at his leash. Don't start the training games, AS the problems are occurring. Start the games when your puppy is calm and relaxed to set him up for success. If your puppy is very excitable, you could have your puppy on leash or in a pen while someone else does the distraction further away from you at first so that the puppy can cope. Teaching default calm behaviors like a 'settle' will increase your puppies abilities to cope with exciting situations and make the correct choices.

Key to complex tricks- rear end awareness

This video goes over the steps of how to using LURING to train the Rear End Awareness exercise. This is an exercise that is not only good for bodily awareness, and building muscles, but also a foundation behavior for teaching some very complex tricks. The behavior can be free shaped as well, however I like to lure this behavior as I like to retain the hand signal that evolves from the luring action as the cue, to use later when teaching other behaviors that involve back foot movements. Its almost as though you magnetize the dog to line up with your hand... and I believe it is quite easy to make side stepping behaviors secondary reinforcers. I use a clicker in this video but if you do not have one you can say "yes" in the place of a click.

What is clicker training?- dog training

What is clicker training? Clicker training is a way of training animals in which desirable behavior is marked with a sound maker and then reinforced, making the behavior more likely to happen in the future. Who can use clicker training? People of all ages! What animals can be clicker trained? All animals, young or old. All species and breeds, small or large. Clicker training creates strong reliable behaviors, and is a great way of modifying behavior- solving shyness, reactivity and aggression. It is also a ethical way to bond with your companion animal as you train the animal to want to do what you want them to do, rather than physically or psychologically intimidating the animal to do what you want.
