Hitler finds out that Kilkenny were beaten by Tipperary and some men from the Upperchurcb Drombane GAA club in the 2010 hurling final You can still order the Hurling in the Hills DVD (PAL format) at www.hurlinginthehills.com A 96 min DVD which takes a rather unique look at what the GAA has meant to the people of a small rural irish parish captures on camera the thoughts and recollections of many of the characters associated with the club down through the years. From stories of the famed Riordan Brothers in 1896, the only two brothers to win All-Irelands on the same day in two separate codes, to the clubs last senior All- Ireland winner, Michael Ryan in 1991, this DVD charts the highs and lows, the controversies, the characters, and the fun that the GAA has brought to the area in the last 125 years. It goes on sale on Friday Nov 27th. The DVD can be pre-ordered from http The DVD will be launched in Murray's function room in Upperchurch on Nov 27th 2009 by the President of the GAA Christy Cooney. All proceeds from the DVD will be directed towards club development.

We're Not Paying the Household Tax- Kilkenny
The household tax is extremely unpopular. In the face of this unpopularity, the government is trying to threaten us with fines and sanctions to make us pay up. But if we all stand together these threats can be defeated. According to the legislation, nobody has to register until the end of March. The government wants 1.8 million households to register and pay this tax by then. But imagine the situation if hundreds of thousands or even a million plus households do not register. We will then be in a really strong position. Government threats would be unworkable as it would take it decades to drag everyone into the courts. Our campaign against registration is growing daily. Join us. If you and your friends join the campaign to boycott registration we can establish mass non registration up and down the country and create a force that will successfully defy government threats and sanctions. Because of the threats some people may be considering registering despite not wanting to. But our advice is -- don't do it yet. You will see by St Patrick's Day (two weeks before the registration deadline) that we have enough non-payers to defeat the government and to stop them from robbing you and your household. Kilkenny, Ireland & the Great War 1914-18
List of those men from Kilkenny, Ireland, known to have been killed in the First World War 1914-18. They would have joined various regiments of the British Army or other countries' armies as Ireland at that time had not achieved Independence from Britain. Although men joined up in their droves, conscription was fiercely opposed and never introduced in Ireland. In fact, the threat of conscription polarised Irish society and sent many of it's opponents into the rebel camp, which laid the basis for Independence. Short film based on what we know about Fred Hall, born in Kilkenny, Ireland and killed at Second Ypres 1915, fighting with the Canadian Expeditionary Force. He was awarded a posthumous Victoria Cross for his bravery in attempting to rescue a wounded colleague. We would like to know where, in Kilkenny City, Fred Hall was born. Swithwick's Kilkenny Rhythm and Roots 2011- Since 1998, The Kilkenny Rhythm and Roots Festival has attracted some of the finest names in the Americana canon; acts like Calexico, Giant Sand, Ryan Adams,Alejandro Escovedo, Mark Eitzel, Guy Clark, Chuck Prophet, Ray LaMontagne,Richmond Fontaine, Rodney Crowell... The list is very long, and these are but a small few names who have been drawn to the magnet of the Marble City Mardi Gras in the past. Country, folk, blues, bluegrass, rockabilly, cajun etc... All forms of what we like to call Americana are well represented over the four days. From midday to midnight audiences wind their way through the medieval streets sampling the huge range of music in the 30 plus venues, hosting over 30 acts from Ireland, USA, Canada, UK and Sweden, with over 80 ticketed and free shows. There's a mixture of old and new acts on the free pub gig trail and all styles will be catered for, from swing to bluegrass, rockabilly to cajun, folk and the blues.
