A section of leaders from the region had wanted the new airport named after the late veteran opposition politician Jaramogi Oginga Odinga. Kisumu wedding turns chaotic

The man's wedding was disrupted after a woman showed up just in time, to claim she was his wife. Kisumu stadium renovation update


ktnkenya.tv The exact date for the renovation work of the Kisumu municipal stadium is still not clear after the three parties involved failed o reach an agreement fallowing a closed door meeting Thursday afternoon in the lakeside town of Kisumu. Representatives from football Kenya, sports ministry and the Kisumu municipal council came together to fine tune the work which is supposed to be taking place at the stadium but still could not announce the commencement date only forming a committee which is to set up a date. But as Joel Omotto reports residents of the lakeside town are now questioning whether the project will be completed this year.

www.ntv.co.ke The death toll in the horror road accident in Kisumu last night has now risen to 25. Rescuers battled for most of the night trying to remove bodies from the wreckage. Witnesses say the accident occurred when a lorry rammed into a matatu that had stopped at a road block on the Kisumu-Kakamega highway. As NTV's Ouko Okusa reports, residents blame police for the tragedy.

Second phase of Kisumu Airport upgrade begins


www.ntv.co.ke Business prospects in Western Kenya are looking up especially with easier access when the second phase of upgrading of the Kisumu International Airport lands. The 1.9 billion shilling development plan, which includes constructing new cargo handling facilities, is scheduled to end in 2013 and as Ntv's Ouko Okusah reports the cargo facility will likely open up an export market for the region's growing horticulture sector.

Kisumu Airport to Be Opened Thursday


President Mwai Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga are expected to officially open the refurbished Kisumu International Airport this Thursday in an event that will mark a major turnaround for the economy of the areas surrounding the Lake Victoria region. The airport which has been expanded at a cost of 3.9billion shillings will be Kenya's fourth international airport after Jomo Kenyatta, Moi International Airport- Mombasa and Eldoret International Airport. An estimated 1000 students have gathered at the Maseno High School, Kisumu county for the term 1 national ball games championships which started today with a colourful opening ceremony. Kisumu orphans defying all odds


www.ntv.co.ke Hundreds of children here in Kenya orphaned by the HIV scourge have ended up in children's homes or in the streets as street urchins and muggers. But two brothers orphaned at the ages of 9 and 7 have stunned many in Katitu village in the outskirts of Kisumu town by engaging themselves in fishing in order to get money to educate themselves. Bernard and Collins Tawa who also lost three of their siblings because of the disease have also been fending for their ageing grandmother. Despite the challenges they face each day, the two siblings have big dreams ahead.

Key leaders in ODM party have told President Mwai Kibaki to his face, that he ought to endorse Prime Minister Raila Odinga's presidential bid, in appreciation of Odinga's famous "Kibaki Tosha" rallying cry that helped propel the president to office in 2002. At a rally in Kisumu, Kibaki was also crowned a Luo Elder in a brave political statement by Odinga's ODM party, that is bound to shake Kenya's political landscape in the weeks and months ahead. However, the president characteristically steered clear of the matter. Kisumu love triangle ends in fiery tragedy


A love triangle last night cost a 23-year-old man his life in Kisumu after unknown people burned him alive in his house in Manyattta Estate.
