
I still remember the day my father and I picked up Knabbel and his brother Babbel/Bolle (which you can also see in some of the pictures). They were about a year old and already switched owners more than once. They were both terrified, jumping at every sound they heard. Babbel never really got over it, always living with his eyes wide open, ready to take flight at any time. Unfortunately, he has already passed away a few years ago by an autoimmune decease. With time Knabbel overcame his fears, calmed down and quickly developed into quite the character. Doing crazy stuff, laying in impossible poses and being very playful. He knew how to demand for what he wanted, especially as he got older. He was very talkative and screamed your head off for food, attention or a door that needed opening. He always lay in my bed, keeping me warm in the coldest of winters. Last year a tumor developed on one of Knabbel's hind legs. I chose to have it amputated, which would mean a good chance that he would live a healthy life for quite some time afterwards. Unfortunately, this was not to be. First he developed a minor infection, due to continues licking on the wound. This settled down and all seemed well, until the end of January, when I noticed a new wound forming. At first it was treated as another infection, but it kept growing. A test was done, and the word was out, the cancer had spread after all and was already manifesting itself in multiple regions.
