Hogarth is best known as the frontman of Marillion, the progressive rock legends that he joined in 1989, following spells in The Europeans and How We Live. In addition to the 12 studio albums Marillion have released in this time, he has also recorded and toured as a solo artist, under the moniker H. In recent years Richard Barbieri has been a core member of Porcupine Tree playing keyboards on all the band's albums since 1993 as well as releasing two solo albums, Things Buried and Stranger Inside. Prior to this, it was in the new-wave pioneers Japan that he originally came to prominence, helping to create the groundbreaking synthesiser sound that defined the band and influenced the likes of The human league, duran duran, Gary Numan, Talk Talk, Kate bush and a whole raft of other artists, including hogarth. After a busy and exciting 2009, releasing their debut EP and playing shows with the likes of Porcupine Tree, Explosions in the Sky and Cymbals Eat Guitars, North Atlantic Oscillations debut album, Grappling Hooks, is released on March 22nd on Kscope. The band have been described as prog-pop and electro-rock, but really they just make music. The music has soaring harmonies and loud guitars and dreamy synths and heavy drums and strange effects and unexpected changes-of-mind. NAO are the Scottish based trio of Sam Healy (vocals, guitar, bass, keyboards, synths, sax, percussion), Ben Martin (drums, percussion, programming) and Bill Walsh (bass, synth bass, vocals). Blackfield's third album is to be released in March, followed by live dates in the UK and Europe in April, and in the US in May, and will be called 'Welcome to my DNA'. Blackfield is the acclaimed collaboration between Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree) and Israeli artist Aviv Geffen. The duo are currently putting the finishing touches on their third album, which is due to be released in March on Kscope. Formed after a meeting in 2000, the partnership blossomed into a cross-cultural collaboration that has already spawned two albums (2004's Blackfield and 2007's Blackfield II). They will be playing Leamington Assembly (6th), Manchester Academy 2 (7th) and London Shepherd's Bush Empire (8th) along with a date at Amsterdam's Paradiso on the 10th followed by a series of gigs in Germany. Recent graduate Laurence Dawes has used Falling Deeper's version of classic track 'Kingdom' on his final film project at Brunel University. 'Below' is a short 3D animation about a man who after believing what he reads in the headlines about swine flu descends underground in an attempt to escape what he perceives as his impending doom. The film is based around a single character who is obsessed with news. His house is littered with newspapers and television sets showing rolling news channels constantly. He has become so obsessed with the news that he can no longer see through the headlines and takes everything seriously.
