Kyokushin karate

Intro to Ichigeki. Nice clips of conditioning, training and competition, plus a roll call of some famous K-1 Superstars such as Francisco Filho, Glaube Feitosa and who I think is a young Andy Hug, along with other Kyokushin warriors including Shokei Matsui, Seiji Isobe, Hajime Kazumi, Kenji Yamaki and Hitoshi Kiyama. Many thanks to 000WIL000 for fighter information!
Kyokushin karate speed kick tutorial

A tutorial on fast turning kicks used in karate, but which can also be applied to other martial arts. The master is Japanese and the cut is from a Japanese entertainment feature show. I don't have enough time to try and translate what he is saying, but you can work it out from his actions what he is trying to express. (If anyone wants to add a Japanese translation in the comments, go ahead!).

Kyokushin Karate vs Wing Chun

This was from the 1st World Tournament. The Wing Chun practitioners are in black, they had decided to test their art against a full-contact style back in the 70s. No information currently available on who the two Wing Chun stylists were. The Kyokushin fighter is Joko Ninomaya, who later on went to form Enshin Karate and the Sabaki Challenge. Joko later commented in his autobiography that the Wing Chun stylists spent too much time on their forms and not enough on practical applications of their techniques. The purpose of this video is not a "style vs style" comparison, as many claim it to be. Rather it clearly shows how one martial artist (the karateka) is actually training to fight, while the other (the WC fighter) is like most martial artists in which he thinks he knows how to fight but does not train to actually fight.

Kyokushin-kan karate shinken shobu kumite (knockdown tournament with face punches)

Kyokushin competition with facepunches (for those who dont know it -ordinary kyokushin knockdown rules allow kicks and knees to the head, but elbows and punches only below the neck). The kyokushin kan organisation has started holding shinken shobu tournaments (no open weight, and limited to a set number of fighters in each weight class) with thin gloves and more skillset allowed. In addition to the face punches, shinken shobu also allows throws and limited clinch (not sure on the details). As in normal knockdown, the goal is to knock the opponent out, or down twice for short periods. The new rules are to be run side by side with the ordinary knockdown tournaments that will be run as normal. The general idea is to address the problems with kyokushin fighters never worrying about facepunches and getting sloppy habits like dropping the guard. The new competition format has been in use since 2007, with test tournaments held in 2006 (where they used helmets, but the fighters hated them, so they were removed).
Kyokushin karate vs Muay thai (12 y old kids)

Summary. In 2006 a japanese TV show sends a 11 year old kyokushin karate kid (Shiratori Taiju, from the Nishitama Dojo in Tokyo affiliated to IKO1-Matsui kyokushin. The kids instructor is Narushima Ryu, a well known kyokushin fighter) to china to compete vs a sanda/sanshou kid of the same age (see the video I uploaded previously). www.youtube.com In 2007, they sent the same Japanese kid (now 12 y old) to Thailand to fight a Thai muay thai kid. Sorry I dont have any details on the Thai kid. They say his name but I cannot make it out. The fight in Thailand was done with rules that admittedly was much closer to the knockdown karate of the kyokushin kid than the Muay thai rules of the Thai kid. Yes it is a form of propaganda. No I do not know why they wear elbow guards and the muay thai kids still don't throw any elbow strikes. Knockdownkarate/kyokushin allows elbows too, just with the same restriction as punches -below the neck only. In knockdown karate, attacks to the head are only allowed with kicks and knees, not with hands or elbows. Not as impressive as the kyokushin vs Sanda fight, but still nice to watch.
