Welcome to the top of Mammoth Mountain — 11000 feet above sea level in the beautiful Sierra Nevada mountains. This central California hideaway, located just east of Yosemite National Park, doesn't get a huge amount of play in guidebooks. But just one visit to this charming mountain village and you'll be hooked. Hi, I'm Veronica Hill of California Travel Tips and this is my first summer visit to Mammoth Lakes. I hear there's a ton of stuff to do, so let's go check it out. The Eastern Sierras are legendary for their beauty, and Mammoth is no exception. Though it's best known for its winter sports, Mammoth is just as fun when there's no snow on the ground. At the Main Lodge Adventure Center, kids can go rock climbing, rush down a quick-moving zip line, or go mountain biking on more than 100 miles of dirt single-track. This is also where you'll pick up the Reds Meadow Shuttle into the Ansel Adams wilderness, where you can either hike or ride on horseback to beautiful Rainbow Falls. If you come to Mammoth during the summer, you have to take the gondola ride to the top where you can go hiking, biking and check out a great interpretive center.
