The Captain's Wife's Lament
Just in time for "Talk Like A Pirate Day" (Sept. 19, every year) "The Captain's Wife's Lament" is Paul and Storm's closing song for their live act. They get everyone into the action by having the audience call out the "arrrs" at the appropriate (and sometimes inappropriate) times. It's a great show. Think you know about pirates? See if you can answer these piratical riddles you're likely to hear at a Paul and Storm concert: What is a pirate's favorite crime? What kind of socks do pirates wear? The contest rules stated that all entries must be three minutes or less in length. However, "Aquaman's Lament" is 3:47. Luckily, Mark Aaron James is really cool, and he agreed to let me edit his song down to fit the contest's guidelines. Unfortunately, I couldn't turn Mark's heroic sacrifice into a win, because the video didn't even make it to the finals. I guess that means I'll have to learn what all these buttons in Adobe After Effects do after all... You can purchase the full length version of this song on iTunes. Fluttershy's Lament
This song started as a silly proggy tune I had in my head. The minimalistic feel came because I was working on my new laptop, which did not yet have my massive sample and synth library installed. I slapped some 808's in for percussion. Since I couldn't record vocals yet, I just put Fluttershy vocals in to see what would happen. It kind of all went downhill from there. Some time later when the ships were repaired, Captain Placeholder's mission had been fulfilled and he left our presence, never to be seen again.
