Killer Home Back (Lats) Workout


Here is a killer 45 minute back workout that you can do at home with just a set of dumbbells and a pullup bar. This is an back (lats,latissimus dorsi)workout for the advanced bodybuilder, if you are new to bodybuilding please check my website for a more appropriate workout. Make sure you have done warm-up sets for both biceps and triceps before starting this workout because we start in with really heavy weights and you don't want to get injured. Intensity and focus are really important when you do this workout. Don't hold back anything, treat every set as if it were your last. I know I sound stupid with all my grunting and groaning but when I give it 110%, I can't help it. Here is the workout: Superset 1: Wide grip pullups and dumbbell rows Superset 2: Alternating grip pullups and dumbbell pullovers Superset 3: Narrow grip pullups and bent over dumbbell rows Repeat the above 5-6 times, the complete workout should take about 45 minutes. If you don't like reconfiguring the dumbbells all the time you can also just do each superset combo 5X and then move on to the next combo. Home Workout: Barbell Rows for Lats


I know I promised an advanced pushup video next, its halfway done - filming the video wiped me out with all the retakes so I couldnt finish it in one session. This video shows how to do barbell rows. Dont attempt these if you have lower back problems, stick to the pullups. While we are on the subject of pullups, these barbell rows are no substitute for pullups. When it comes to building lats, pullups are king! Keys to good form on the barbell row: 1) keep your back motionless 2) keep your abs flexed and tight to support your lower back 3) make sure to breathe, dont hold your breath 4) pull the bar to your hip, not your shoulders 5) use a slow, smooth motion - no jerking By the way, I know I screwed up twice and said "dumbbell row" where I meant "barbell row". Narrow Grip Pullups for Lats

In addition, in this video I show you how to quickly build a cheap set of handles that allow you to do these close grip pullups virtually anywhere, even from a tree. When you do these, do the reps very slowly. Try to do 2 seconds up and 2 seconds down with no swinging or jerking. Go all the way up and all the way down but keep your shoulders stationary, dont totally relax when hanging and stretch the shoulder out of joint. Lat Pulldown Back Workout Routine

However a lot of people do them wrong. In this video I'll show you some different pull down variations with proper exercise form to help you maximize your muscle gains. This may come as a surprise to most people, but when you do narrow grip pull downs (or any back rowing move for that matter) you work more of the outer portion of the lats. When you do wider grip, you would more of the center portion of your back. Just give it a try the next time you are in the gym. Do a few sets with a wider grip, then do a few sets with a narrow grip. Really focus on feeling the muscles stretch and contract as you do each rep, I bet you'll see that I'm right in where you feel the most muscle activation. Alternating Grip Pullup for Wide Lats


www.scoobysworkshop.com For wide, flaring lats the alternating grip pullup is great! In this variant of the pullup we put much more load on one lat than the other to shock it into growing stronger. This pullup is a stepping stone to a one handed pullup. To do this pullup, one palm is toward our face and the other faces away from our face. We center our body under the palm that is facing our face so as to overload this lat. We do as many reps as we can in this position then, without rest, swap grips and do it the other way. Back Workout -- T-bar row, db rows, lat pull downs, shrugs...


www.LeeHayward.com I like to start my back workouts off with a quick warm up on rowing machine. This is a great machine to use as a warm up prior to any workout because it moves all the major muscle groups and get the blood flowing and increases your core temperature. I'll usually do between 5 and 10 minutes on the rower until I get a light sweat on and feel ready to move on to the weight training portion of my workout. My first exercise is chest supported T-bar rows. The gym that I normally workout at doesn't have this style of T-bar row machine so I like to add it in when ever possible. You'll notice that I keep one foot on the floor and one on the foot plate. This helps take some of the pressure off your chest and makes it easier to breath deeper when doing the exercise. Next I move on to one of my favourite back exercises, the 1 arm dumbbell row. This allows you to work each lat individually and helps to develop balance and proportion between the left and right sides.
