Allan McNish in the #3 Audi R18 TDI was involved in a horrific accident in the 2011 Le Mans 24 hour race. McNish made contact with the #58 Ferrari and crashed heavily into the barriers just after the Dunlop bridge. Thankfully he was able to walk away with no major injury.

Audis R18 # Hits a Ferrari and Crashes into the barrier wich almost seems to kill Mike, but luckely he survived. For the second time in the 2011 Le Mans 24 Hours, one of Audi's new R18 cars has been forced to retire after a massive accident involving a GTE class Ferrari. Approaching 11pm local time, Mike Rockenfeller had just moved into second place overall at the wheel of the #1 car when a GTE Ferrari -- believed to be the #71 driven by Robert Kaufmann -- moved across on the Audi on the high-speed kink leading to Indianapolis. The resulting contact saw Rockenfeller tipped into a spin that saw the Audi impact the barrier at high speed on the left-hand side of the circuit before the car rebounded across the circuit and smashed into the barrier on the right. Such was the extent of the damage that it wasn't immediately apparent which car had been involved before the reaction of the Audi crew told its own story. According to Audi Motorsport boss Wolfgang Ullrich, Rockenfeller was able to climb from the car and get over the barrier on the side of the circuit before medical crews arrived. Rockenfeller has now been taken away by ambulance from the scene of the accident. So far its said that he walked away from the car with no injuries! Mike Rockenfeller has a massive crash on the way to the Indianapolis corner. This time's it the #1 Audi of Mike Rockenfeller who made contact with Robert Kauffman. Le Mans 1955 accident raw footages. This accident was captured at least on four different cameras and angles. I have read a lot of reports on this accidents, but after analyzing those raw footages by myself I found a lot of those reports were inaccurate. -- First shoot is from an amateur camera. Film is broken at the last picture. It has been said that the cameraman has been injured or killed. This shoot was long lost (or hidden)... When film shown at normal speed, it is obvious that Pierre Levegh had no chance to avoid the collision. It also shows that Lance Macklin had almost lost control of his Austin. He went to his left much more than needed to avoid Hawthorn who was braking for pitting. -- Second shoot is the most famous. It mainly shows how parts of the car where thrown into the public. -- Third shoot is from the top of the pits. On the very first frames, it shows how the Mercedes actually fell into the crowd and bounced over the fence again to finaly stop and explose next to the track. This is something I wasn't aware of and descovered by watching the document frame by frame. It also shows the engine, front axle and pilot catapulted out of the car. The fourth one was captured in color but is shown here in a black and white version. It mainly shows Maclin's Austin bouncing in the pits, killing and injuring people on the right side of the track.

After a thrilling Estoril 6-Hour race the Pescarolo team was able to savour its second victory of the season. Rebellion Racing won the teams' title in LM P1 in the Le Mans Series, and Julien Jousse and Emmanuel Collard bagged the drivers' crown. TDS Racing came first in LM P2, Pegasus Racing in FLM, JMW Motorsport in LM GTE Pro and IMSA Performance in LM GTE Am. The LM P2 battle started with a long duel between the Strakka Racing HPD ARX-01d driven by Johnny Kane and Olivier Lombard in the Greaves Motorsport Zytek Z11SN6-Nissan. The young Frenchman took the lead but the Oreca 03s soon began their race-long domination of the category as their rivals ran into problems. In LM GTE Pro, Rob Bell's and James Walker's Ferrari F458 Italia led the category for a long time and eked out a small gap over its rivals.
