CSX 419 & 411 with loaded coal train V605 stalls coming off the Salsbury Branch just outside Meyersdale, PA. The engineer informs the dispatcher that they have no sand. Watch closely as these two brutt AC4400 actually lunge, and bounce up and down trying to get traction coming up the steep grade of the branch to the mainline. With the locomotives in #8 notch, the hood doors viberate, and you can here the wheels grinding in the sand. It may be a slow video, but you will see what it takes to get this train rolling. The crew in the helper engines never left the comfort of their warm cab in the 19 degree weather. The crew, and some railfans hand sand the rails, and V605 backs up to get a second run for it, and finally makes it out. The whole ordeal to well over an hour. There is now a second clip (PART II) of the progress of the train heading west before it heads east to Cumberland, MD. A ten minute video of the legendary 1982, arcade console game "Super Locomotive" from SEGA. This clip was recorded onto DVD from a Dell Inspiron 8200 (Pentium 4), running MAMEUI.FX.. in Windows XP - SP3.. This is definitely not my best performance, possibly because it was being recorded, but I have tried to demonstrate most of the common 'moves' and control actions... The YouTube 10 minute limit spoils the overall effect. This game ran on for a further 20 minutes before I ran out luck.. I used to be good at this game when it was originally in the arcades.! My appologies for the rather poor video quality - I have no idea what went wrong there.. When viewed on the computer screen "live" the images are perfectly clear and sharp.. MAME = Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator, and supports many of the classic arcade games from the 1970's to the 1990's. It is free to download via the internet, as are the game ROMS, and if you are in to retro arcade games, it is the perfect place to start.. MAME has its own cult following, with serious gamers building their own arcade consoles from scratch, and incorporating a Windows PC and monitor. "Locomotive Breath" is a song by the English progressive rock band Jethro Tull from their 1971 album, Aqualung, notable for a long bluesy piano introduction (particularly during live performances) and its flute solo by rock flute virtuoso Ian Anderson. The lyrics use the imagery of an impending and unavoidable train wreck as an allegorical portrayal of a man's life falling apart. The song receives frequent airplay on classic rock radio stations. January 23, 2008: NS 963, light engines, the 6th unit NS 6199 catches fire when the traction motor / armature fails and the roller bearing seizes. The 4th axle is burning away the traction motor, which causes a lot of sparks and flames to fly. Ties caught on fire, however smoldered out within a few minutes. Burnt shoes could be smelled over a half-hour period after the pass-by of the train. 963 consist of NS GP60 7125, NS Dash-9-40CW, NS Dash-8-40C, NS Dash-9-40C, NS RPU-6 864 Slug mated to NS SD40-2 6199. Obviously, I called this in and the train stopped short of CP Prescott after passing over the 79.9 detector announcing 'no defects' - 963 was moving within 45 minutes. Taken in Richland. QRNational "5000 class" locomotive 5007 leads another 5000 class locomotive through Maitland. The 5000 class were built for exclusive use in the NSW Hunter Valley coalfields and have proven to be very capable heavy haul locomotives. The locomotive is based on the C40ACI design, with the GE 7FDL-16 diesel engine delivering 4000Hp for tractive effort purposes. This is my custom-built Lego 2-8-4 locomotive. Took me several months to get all the detail and features down. 2-8-4 is the Whyte notation for locomotive wheel classification (not including the tender). So in this case it has 2 small front wheels, 8 big wheels in the middle, and 4 smaller ones in the back. It's made mostly out of older lego pieces (which explains why the boiler design is made out of plates and a satellite dish) with the exception of the electronics. That includes the tracks so once and a while it'll hit a bump in an old track and it might jam for a fraction of a second. Uses Power Functions RC system, one 9V geared motor, one rc train motor, and one old lego 9v train motor. At two minutes it starts running on flexible lego tracks. We are on the Western Maryland Scenic in the earlier years when the Canadian Pacific G5 4-8-2 Pacific's hauled the trains up the stiff mountain grades on the former Western Maryland RWY. We stand at Helmsteaders curve as we watch the high steppin Pacific blast by. The second clip is in the heavest part of the grade before Frostburg.
