Splitting Wood With A Tire

great769 shows you how to split wood quicker and easier then ever before . This method works with most types of wood, I've split maple , Birch, spruce and fir. If you doing only 5or6 cords a year this is a good little log splitting chopping block, now it won't replace a log splitter and its not intended to. Make sure its covered so the rain doesn't fill the tire so mosquitoes don't use it for a breeding ground. This is a great way to make kindling wood a real back saver and time saver. As we all know burning wood is a great way to reduce our dependence on fossil fuel and its cheaper than oil and with the rising of oil prices this for me is the way to go. Testing the Ludwig Log Splitting Axe / Maul

This video is for anybody interested in buying a splitting axe. The one I have here is a Ludwig spiltting axe. It has a 4 lb. head. The standard splitting axe uses either a 6 lb. or an 8 lb. head. The lighter weight requires the user to exert more energy to accomplish the same thing with the heavier axe. Also, with the light weight, the wide angle of the head works against the user as resistance instead of helping the user. When a successful split is accomplished, the wide angle throws the chunks of wood far off to the side. So you don't want to use this axe near a car or a trailer with tail lights. I bought the Ludwig from Home Depot. Lowe's version of the same axe is called a Super Splitter. I paid $30 for this one. I would recommend buying the 8 lb. standard splitting axe with the molded handle and let the weight do the work for you.

Wheelhorse log splitting

Here is my 1978 Wheelhorse belted up to a home made log splitter. The cast iron flywheel is about 24 inches diameter and is geared down 4 to 1 with a chain and sprocket set up there after. Before anyone starts yelling "that's dangerous" it's a lot safer than the chainsaw I used to cut the wood before hand. Chopping wood has an element of risk whatever you use - period! This thing was just flung together to see of it worked . It does, it splits stringy wood that would otherwise laugh at an axe. It's not as slow as it looks in the video and you can split wood all day long.

Palax Power100S Firewood Processor version 02

The Palax Power 100s is a firewood processor designed for professional use. It includes several unique proprietary features that make it the most efficient, productive and reliable machine of its size for processing big trees. The robust Palax Power 100s is equipped with a 1000 mm / 39.3 in overhead hard-metal blade, a thrust force of 16 tons (kg) / 35300 lbs and fully hydraulic control. The machine is at its best when processing hardwood. The maximum tree diameter is 40 cm / 15.7 in. Automatic high-speed valve - As a rule, the work stroke is always performed at high speed. If the smaller splitting force induced by the high-speed function is great enough, the wood will split up. If the splitting force at high speed is not great enough, it will immediately be boosted. As soon as the splitting of the wood starts and the force requirement is reduced, the high-speed operation will automatically resume. The high-speed motion brings added speed for small trees and added force for big trees. Optimizing the stroke length increases the splitting speed - The Palax Optimi is the method for optimizing the length of the splitting stroke by limiting the cylinder stroke in accordance with the length of the processed wood. A full stroke is used for processing longer sized wood. If the length of the processed wood is shorter sized, then the cylinder stroke is reduced to almost a half and thus the splitting speed is virtually doubled! Automatic tightening of the V-belts - The transmission ...

P2L Fixed Blade Wood Splitting Technique

Jeff uses a Gerber Profile to split wood for a Dakota Fire Hole. The Gerber Profile has a small 4" blade, it can be difficult to split wood with such a small knife. This style of wood splitting is also referred to as batoning. It is use to prepare wood for fires as well as bow drills. Splitting the wood causes a fire to burn hotter and more efficiently makes better tender and can be used to find dry kindling in times of precipitation. This video has no sound, I am going to record a comentary for it soon.
